This question is for those who are on or who were on Prozac... Did it cause you to loose weight? And if so, how much, and how long did it take to loose that much weight? Also, what other kind of effects did the drug have on you? (I am taking 10 mg daily for depression, and I've been on it for about a week and have lost 1 lb. without dieting or changing my exercise plan.)

More Details: When I was depressed, I ate a lot! But now that I've been on it, I eat less because I guess I feel happier and have less of a need for sweets... so I guess it has the opposite effect on me than others who ate less because they were depressed?
Also, thank you for the answers! It's nice hearing about other's experiences. :-)

Yes, I lost weight for about 4wks, then it leveled off. There are several side effects that occur for a short period of time until your body gets used to the drug, dry mouth, hard to sleep, no appetite.
Since you are only taking 10mg you shouldn't have too much trouble. But no matter what the side effects you suffer are, stick with the med for at least 6wks because they do go away and you will feel soooooooo much better!!! Good Luck to you.

Prozac can cause weight loss in some people and weight gain in others. It depends on how your body reacts to the medication. Also it depends on time because if you went off the prozac now and took it two years later, it could make you lose weight.

If you're not depressed, then you might eat less. Some people eat for comfort, to relieve stress, and the weight builds up. Using Prozac could stop that cycle.
But a pound isn't very much in one week; a pint of water will do that. But it is encouraging! Good luck!

I have been on Prozac for years, when I first started I started out on a 20mg. once a day & felt so sick to my stomach & headaches I didn't feel like eating. Didn't loose no more than a few extra pounds. In time I have been on 20-40mg a day & never no weight loss.
Every ones body & system is different.

i have never taken prozac but i do know alot about it and other antidepressants... prozac is common for weight loss but everyone is different. Loosing one pound doesnt really mean anything though, that could be a result of water weight loss. If you are wanting to loose weight try modifying your diet and exercize

I felt better and started eating so I consider you one of the lucky ones. If it concerns you then keep a calorie and food diary. Of course you could have just lost water weight.
