It is very hard to dye your hair when its that dark. I speak from experience. The best thing to do is go to a salon, even Hair Cuttery is good enough, have them first strip your hair, this gets out all the old colors and lifts your natural color. then they can put a dye on top of that. For black hair it will take a few hours. If you cannot afford this, i would suggest Feria hair color. I've always found that this brand is the strongest over the counter.

I have red hair out of a bottle for more than 18 years now. The best brand that is out there is Garnier Nutrisse Cream. It does wonders for hair and the red shades are glossy and amazing. I am not sure how resistent your hair is to coloring, but I have seen people with natural black hair who tried this and had their color changed. Remember that the color shown on the box is lighter than the color that you will achieve.

Well it is true, red does look best in some skin tones...
You should get it done proffesionaly in a salon, I can tell you from experience... Mine only showed up in the sun too
Red is a very hard color to maintain though... It fades very fast so proffesional dye would be best, make sure to use a shampoo for Reds because when I got mine, everytime I would wash it, it would fade a little

actually if your hair is black , you should try dying it a light to a medium brown first , then dying it the red . i had the same problem with my hair. And the best brand , ( the one that i use) is herbal essences. it gives you really nice color and it doesn't ruin my hair like the other brands. it has a lot of conditioners in it!

No. Won't work. You would need to highlight your hair in the places you want the red to show. No hair dye will show up in black hair unless you're in sunlight. I have dark hair too.

I can tell you from being a natural red head, and seeing some of the God awful things people have done to their hair to make it red, go to a salon and get it professionally done. Red is a hard, hard color to try and achieve. You don't want to walk around with maroon hair now do you?

I have brown hair and I have Blonde highlights. Possibly you should try lighter blonde, this might look better than brown, dark brown just looks kind of trashy.

Why is everyone with blond, why cannot you just have jet black hair with some blonde or blonde curly hair with some jet black hair. Today you don't have to choose.
