To me it means that just like a bird is known by the song it sings, a man is known by the words he speaks. If a man's words are nothing but lies we know that he is a liar and not to trust him. If a man always does what he says, we know he is honorable. If a man is very softspoken, we know we can trust him, and so on.

Nothing. People lie. People criticize Wal-Mart for not paying high wages, then they go shop there because they have the best prices. People say the care about taking care of sick and elderly, but spend thousands of dollars on big screen TVs, fishing boats, and spinning rims.

A man is known by his actions, not his words.
