They shouldn't unless you agree to release the information. They might have a responsibility to assist you with getting a claim processed or paid if there's a problem, in which case they might need to work with you to get it resolved. HIPAA protects your medical information from being relased by the insurance company to anyone hwo is not a medical professional with a need to know, or anyone you have not specifically waived your rights to privacy for, like a spouse, etc.

no, as I recall the HR manager just sets up the insurance with the insurance company. When a person goes to use the insurance the claim is submitted to the insurance company and the insurance company determines if they will pay for the service or what part they will pay for the service (according to a list of reasonable services costs they refer to when paying the bills).

If a person wants a special procedure performed (or is not sure if it is covered or not)they must contact the insurance company themself first to see if the insurance company would approve that procedure. If the insurance company doesn't provide it then they are out of luck.

Usually when the individual applies for insurance the insurance company provides them with a "booket of services" and in there are the contact phone numbers of the insurance company.

no, the insurance company is not allowed to give out this information. its a violation of HIPPA.
