The best thing to do is take your 3 boys to the animal shelter!! There are so many dogs that need good homes. Don't go looking for a certain kind of dog, just look at the dogs. That's what I did and I have the most wonderful dog ever!! Shelter dogs are so apprecitive, by far they make the best pets. Don't breed or BUY while shelter animals DIE.

Newfoundlands can be great dogs, especially near water. My aunt had one and when we went swimming, we would climb on its back and jump off and grab his tail to get back to shore. About the only problem I see for you is the color. Black dog in the Florida sun. If it is the size your husband is looking for, another nice looking breed is the Great Pyrnees, just as friendly, great with kids but come in white which may be better in your area. Check them out, and good luck with your choice.

Newfoundlands are great with kids and other dogs. I have a Newfoundland and she is very sweet. She also likes to jump in the pond we have. Newfoundlands do drool alot. One thing you could get to clean up with the drool is a "drool ball." A "drool ball" is any furry dog toy ball that can wipe up drool.

I know someone who had one. Good dog, big dog, gentle dog. The downside..they don't live long at all. I think the average lifespan is like 5-7 years. Plus they have a lot of hair that needs a lot of maintenance.

Newfies are great dogs and they have a wonderful disposition. They are especially good with children. Their drawbacks are twofold - 1 they are droolers. Big droolers. If you cannot deal with a drooly dog, do not get a Newfie. 2. They are very hairy and they do shed, so be prepared to deal with that. If you can live with both of those things, you'll be fine.

Well my aunt and uncle had one she was so beautiful but she had arthritis at a young age and she had to be put down .She was really great with the kids and she so loyal and highly intelligent .But the down fall to them is that they do not live long because they are so big and they can have a lot of genetic issues so just be careful where you get one from. so good luck on your search for one...

Newfies are a very lovable and affectionate breed. By stating that they shed and drool is a definite understatement. Daily household maintenance will require vacuuming hair and wiping up drool.
