Don't point out pregnant people.
If the woman has a child, DO NOT tell her to be thankful for the child she has.
Don't try to empathize if you haven't been there yourself, but do offer your shoulder should she need it, and let her know she can come to you.

That is a tough question. I would say let them decide what the topic of conversation is. Give them a chance to vent their anger or joy on their own. Especially if you have children of your own. Try to do research on the subject, so that if they do ask for advice, you will be informed. For some people being childless seems like the end of the world. They are under a lot of stress, and I would imagine having people that have children and didn't have to work for it give them advice would only make them angry.

It depends a lot on how close you are to any woman going through this. It is a very private issue for a lot of women.
And it is not so much in what you say as it is in your attitude.
Simple phrases such as 'I am truly sorry' or 'How difficult...I admire your courage' and never out of line.....but be sincere and let her decide how many details she wants to share about the situation. Don't ask questions.

If you believe in prayer tell her she's in your prayers. If you don't simple say she's in your thoughts and if she doesn't extend this line of the conversation you should drop it. This can be an emotional time for a woman and questions don't help.
