I constantly hear people saying "Pits kill" and "they will attack your children" or my favorite "they kill with no remorse". Come on people....educate yourself before you speak. The breed is not bred to kill humans. The breed was bred to fight true....but other dogs not people. They are actually very loyal to humans. The problem lies with people mixing APBTs with other breeds such as rotties or boxers. Not that these breeds are bad...they are not but, when you mix them sometime you can get some unstable animals. I have owned APBTs and have one now. I also have children. I have said before that I would never leave my children and my dog alone together but, it is not because of her breed, it is using common sense. Did you know that when these dogs are being fought, the owners would trade dogs and bathe them to insure there was no poison on the dogs. If these animals showed any aggression to people they were immediately destroyed. Please know what you are talking about before you speak.

people are ignorant. the news shows horrible dog attacks but pitbulls are just a breed all dogs just like all humans have the possibility to become violent in circumstances where they are defending themselves or their loved ones. don't worry about what everyone says and just love and hug your pit. BLAME THE DEED NOT THE BREED.

Actually, I don't think that mixing Pit Bulls with other breeds creates any sort of aggression problem. I think that raising them improperly (whether purebred or mixed with Rotties, Boxers, or anything else) creates an aggression problem.

Why do people have so many incorrect ideas about the breed? Partially because they only see the bad ones, who are the ones that make the news.

Partially because dog fighting -- while underground -- is common enough in this country to create a problem. When dogs are a money-making commodity, they are treated poorly and raised improperly -- whether in a puppy mill, or a dog fighting ring. This leads to behavioral problems, and dogs that were bred for aggression cannot coexist with people if they have behavioral problems.

Partially because morons think that dogs who can kill are "cool", and get these dogs as a status symbol without really knowing how to raise and train them. These are people who have no business owning ANY dog, much less a powerful, strong-willed dog. So, of course their dog causes problems. And that makes the news, and people see it and make assumptions about the breed as a whole based on what they see.

It is human nature to label, to stereotype. We do it with other humans, why not with dogs?

Not saying it makes sense, but it's the truth.

I have personally seen a APBT ATTACK it's owner.
I do not think the breed is horrid, or should be banned....the problem is that theya re often owned by losers and others who do not know how to handle the breed.
The breed has a higher prey drive and a greater tendency to bit and bite HARD than other breeds. That is just fact. There are too many idiots breeding them and then giving them to friends, who breed them somemore. The cycle goes on. Most of these people should NOT have any dog, much less a pit bull.
And I do not think that just because it is mixed with a Rotti, it is more unstable. That just is not true. They are just owned by the same kind of losers that usually own pit bulls. If owning the breed was CONTROLLED...there would be less problems.
When I dive ito the nearest city to me, and go around the "rough" section...there are pits ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!!!! And I have seen them loose and chasing people and other animals.
These are the people who are going to get the breed banned!!!!

I am a dog trainer from Des Moines, Iowa. I agree that people are putting a bunch of blame on something that doesn't deserve it. I would MUCH rather be in the company of a APBT then a ChowChow or a Cocker Spanial. (or any spanial for that matter). The only thing I can say that is good about the "mean looking" APBT is that if people think it looks mean, then they are less likly to be stupid around it. I have an Australian Cattle Dog from a shelter that rarely goes in public because she's nasty to other people and dogs, but she's "cute" so people ALWAYS want to pet her!

Well, it is just their reputation. So what if some ppl don't approve of the dog? I know of quite a few dogs (some pits) that have attacked ppl...it is all in how you raise them, individually. Don't get so worked up over it, k? People in general are ignorant about a lot of things. It's our nature.

What I know is that every time I see news of a dog attacking a person it's a pit.

The main problem is stupid owners...they think it's cool to have an aggressive acting dog and they don't train them to be social. Just my opinion, the pit I had was a sweet heart.

YES! I now own an amstaff and he's a very gentle dog with people, including my grandkids. I used to have a boxer/staffie mix. He did not like children but was fine with adults.

My husband: Hun,I don't want a pit in case it turns on us.

Me: *stare*...*blank stare* ...*refusese to SCREECH at him for that*

Common misconception. However,it's like saying every spaniel loves the water. I know of a cocker that you can't BEG into a small wading pond.
