I do try to listen but I'm constantly aware that I know I hear what I want to hear, probably not what God is saying to me you know?? How can I be sure its Him?? I asked him to give me a verse to help my boyfriend and I couldn't think of anything, I couldn't hear anything - in the end I chose Psalm 3,3!

I know it is cheesy to cut and paste; but God answers that question in His word, so I will just pass His answer on.
Mic 6:8
8 He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Er, sorry what makes you think he wants anything from you, if you read the bible properly you would see that just because he created the heaven and earth in 6 days and rested on the seventh he didn't add an eighth day to write down list of peoples names he expected things off, I think all god wants you to do is to be a happy person so he can help the ones who really need him, you are just a human being like the rest of us, just give thanks for the life you have and stop worrying what god or other people expect of you, be happy.

in life if you want to win something or have it then you ask your heart of what to do. if you cant find anything from there then close your eyes take your mom n dads name. and then you'll see that nothing is impossible. if you really want to do something like in action then say a little prayer and ask god for help. open the bible with your eyes closed, look down on the bible and read a few verses out of that chapter of that page. it doesn't matter even if you don't understand it god might as well. and garret B how do you know if god exists or not? just bcoz u haven't seen him doesn't mean he doesn't exist.

Most of the answers here are good ones, but one thing they didn't mention is to open your heart to Him and let Him guide you. You have to open your heart to Him in order to be able to hear Him. Live by His word and study. Sometimes when you pray for something, the answer can be found in so many ways, such as maybe in something you read. It could come in the form of a sound, or smell or even by what someone tells you. But you have to be preceptive and accepting to know His answer. Listen with your heart and you will know.
God bless you and keep you.

He provided the Bible to answer that very question.
Of course, it has been used and abused over centuries.
However, just because a young child is abused, it doesn't make him a bad child.
So with the Bible, though its been abused, it still remains a good book.
The Bible speaks of the 'new' personality.
Galations 5:22,23
Those are the qualities God wants us to show.
The ones he doesn't want us to show are in Galations 5:19-21.
Its a whole job in itself

Ask yourself.Try to find that what it was that you've always wanted to do for others .Help them in whatever way you can.And still if'you are in a dilemma take a pen and paper and jot down all your feelings and queries .You will automatically get a reply. But always remember.Hands that help are holier than lips that pray.Helping others is l,ike helping God

Temperature is around 36° Centigrade.

How do I find out what God wants from me??

That is a difficult one.

What if you have already given a valid answer by asking the question ?

Is it being too pessimistic to state that you will be going all your life wondering, wondering what God wants (from) you, what your companion wants (from) you, what your children/parents want from you, what your boss wants from you, what you want from your employees ?

Could we not try and simplify the problem and put “you” in the Center and put anyone who is troubled by that question in the Center ?.

What do I want from myself ?

How can I wake up in the morning and start shaving and look at myself and not be ashamed of myself ? (I assume that for a woman that may be translated as “how can I like what I see when brushing my teeth ?).

Even more difficult, how can I go to bed a warm evening when I am not too tired and find the sleep in a peaceful way and not be tortured by a poor self-evaluation ?

In this life, we are like a player standing in the Middle of the Madison Square Garden, he is alone, he wonders whether he should warm up for baseball or for football or for cricket, and he looks around wondering why these thousands and thousands of spectators are looking at him, at me, and the coach is looking at me in a desperate way, as if they wall knew what I am supposed to do and I am the only one who does not know.

So, why not put “You” in the Center.

You feel like dancing round the diamond, maybe this is the purpose, that the spectators are waiting for you to dance around the bases?

You feel like lying down and have a nice rest, why not, possibly everyone is waiting to see a demonstration of relaxation technique under the stare of the crowd.

Possibly the true answer to that question is that what is expected of you, what is wanted of you is that you ask yourself the only true question:

What do I want for and out of myself and for all of you ?

You are free, you cannot pack the burden of where you are going to walk on somebodies else's shoulders.

It is so wonderful, so frightening, you are free to choose your life.

The reward is huge.

It is your life, the fruits will be your fruits, the sweetness will be your sweetness, the bitterness will be your bitterness, but, whatever happens, it will be yours.

Sure you will fail.

But it will be your failure.

So whatever happens, you turn out as the winner.

You played the game.

Go on, winning or losing, play your game.

That is a difficult thing to figure out. But, if you legitimately want His help, just ask in a prayer and then go about your business. He will steer people, events, situations, etc. to move you where he wants you to be. It will seem that YOU are making the decisions, but you are actually being helped.
