No, and I'll tell you why. New York has a baseball team called The NY Yankees and unless you live in New York you know that The Yankees are the worst bunch of cheating bums that ever played ball. Every time they get in the playoffs their owner buys off the umpires.

I don't mind, but the funny thing is that you'll find it means different things depending where you go in the US. Outside the US, it's any American. In the American South, it's anyone from the Northeast (and then it's being used as an insult). In the Northeast, it's someone from the New England states. In New England, it's someone from Connecticut. Or I've heard is someone from New Hampshire. Depends who you ask. And of course if you're from Boston or New York, it's a baseball player. It's just a funny word here.

We Americans dont mind being called Yankees. Its the adjective that many put in front of the word Yankee that we often object to.

Yankees is the term referring to the Northern states who were against slavery in the Civil war. It really doesn't matter to me as long as it's used in a friendly term. You may have a problem on your hands though if you call a Mets fan a yankee. lol. baseball.

I dont think it bothers most Americans at all. People from the south use it as a derogatory term. When it comes from people from other countries it dosnt bother me at all. People who are bothered by it are probably hyper sensitive with very low self esteem

No. Those are people typical of New England, usually.
People in the Southern US (Like... the Carolina's, Alabama, Mississippi, etc) call northerners "yanks", often in reference to the civil war.
