uhh...stringdean?? 'not one of the big ones'??? Sin is sin...big or small. Murder and a lie hold the same fate. And yes, smoking weed is a sin. It doesn't spell out every little thing in the Bible that is a sin. However, it DOES say that your body is a temple and not to defile it. It also says (in so many words) that you shouldn't alter your mind with substance...whether it be strong drink, drugs, whatever. Also, someone else already said...included in that was that you follow the laws of your land...and if you believe nothing else, you already KNOW it's illegal. If you have further questions about this, perhaps you should seek a good church and pastor.

there are many things that are not mention specifically in the bible. However, there are principles that can be understood. The bible is not a list of "do's and don'ts". Below you will find several verses that show the principle applied to not damaging your body. Contrary to some other's opinions here, yes it is a sin to smoke, regardless of what it is you choose to smoke.
Will God strike you dead with a bolt of lightning because you light up? NO! He's a God of love, not hate, but there are consequences for your choices.

Eph 5:18-19
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
NIV

1 Cor 3:16-17
16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
NIV

Col 3:2
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
NIV

Col 3:5
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
NIV

Col 3:16-17
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
NIV

Col 3:25
25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.
NIV

I am really not a very religious person. I did go to church through my childhood and received my confirmation, so I'm not uneducated on the subject either. Marijuana use has absolutely nothing to do with religion... it has never been touched upon in the bible. Therefore smoking pot is not a sin, though it is illegal.

As for your body being a temple... true, but alcohol is more addictive than pot, and has been the cause of more death than any other substance in history... anf they serve it in church. Smoking pot is not a sin, and it's only illegal still, despite proven medicinial uses, due to it's political unpopularity.

In I Corinthians 6:19-20, the Bible talks about your body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, and that we are not to treat our bodies badly.

Is smoking weed helpful or harmful for your body?

How you answer that question determines whether you believe that God would say it's right or wrong.

It might not be said in the Bible, but it might have been prohibited by the Torah or Koran...so it depends actually on what source you are relying on...after all does it have to be written down in a book for people to consider it a sin....harming yourself can be simply a sin...which can make one ask himself: is weed harmful? once you find the answer to that ,you wont need to see who considers smoking a weed a sin.

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 6:19.
God gave each of us a conscience. Romans 2:15 I think you already know in your heart if it's a sin. I don't believe the Lord wants us in an altered state.

No it is not a sin. Just because MANS law says it is not right, God never said it was sinful. It may be illegal, but not immoral or sinful. There is no part of the bible that even alludes to it. I do not condone it, but I do not condemn either. I just answered your question. It is people that twist the bible around to acommodate their beliefs that say it is sinful.

Lots of interesting answers. Do you feel guilty for smoking because it is a law of the land...blah blah...What logic are these people using. Drugs were religion back in the day. To have curiosity and deep contemplation seems to be the way to enlightenment in lots of cultures. There are sacrifices with each thing we do and it could damage your body, but so do chilidogs. Would jesus obey the laws of the land? Doubtful, most are these laws were made to stroke the egos of people who have power that shoudln't be in that position.

Sin is a bit of a strong word.
How about just calling it a dirty habit.
The Bible says nothing DIRECTLY about smoking.
There is, however, the principle mentionned at 2 Corinthians 7:1
about cleansing ourselves of all FLESHLY defilements.
It could apply.

Not.... see below.. and the herb for the service of man.....

Genesis 1:11 - And God said, Let the earth
bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and
the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose
seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Psalm 104:14 - He causeth the grass to grow
for the cattle, and herb for the service of
man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

Revelation 22:2 - In the midst of the street of it,
and on either side of the river, was there the
tree of life, which bare twelve manner of
fruits, and yielded her fruit every month:
and the leaves of the tree were for
the healing of the nations.
