My drill SGT use to say the Maximum effect of an excuse is Zero, then he would call us all donuts and makes us do belly rolls.

My Platoon SGT use to say that the Maximum effective range of an excuse depends on how far from the commanders door you are.

Zero

And the way I would ask the question is this:

"What is the maximum effective range for the M16A2 rifle?"

"What is the maximum effective range of the M240 machine-gun?"

"What is the maximum effective range of an excuse?"

"Wrong! The maximum effective range of an excuse is zero! Now get out of my office!"

You have to do the right thing. I think, it is necessary to pray to God when you are in a battle. Even tiny amount of help can be crucial. And try to eliminate error as hard as you can. Then you will be doing the right thing. But the main thing is to pray all the time.
