i would ask the parents what they usually play, it's really frustrating trying to teach kids new games! Plus they never play by the rules anyway :) Also depends on what kind of games you mean, board games, card games, video games, make believe games. Candyland is a good board game for kids that can't read yet.

If you have any video game system that would be great. Otherwise, most children that age love board games. You could try games like Monopoly Jr., connect 4, Checkers, operation or Elefun.
Good luck.

Get some dice and chips and teach them the rules of craps. Later on in life they will thank you and who knows, if they come out big winners down the road they may decide to reward the person that got them started. It´s a healthy game and it teaches kids that there are winners and losers.

Good question. I don't know what time you are sitting with them or where you live, but if it is as hot there as it is here, try water balloons. Not so much a water fight but toss the balloon to each other and see how many times everyone can catch it before it breaks.

well i baby sit and i know that 8 year olds tend to be rather bouncy and sometimes irritating. The little one will be sweet but it is important to give the bigger boy some attention to. play hide and seek and blind mans bluff which will stimulate the big one and wear down th elittle one! Good luck you'll love it!

Get some toys, blocks, cars, etc. Pick up a couple videos, Ice Age, Toy Story, Monster Inc and so on. They will probably both get into those and time will fly by.

Call ahead and ask their mother what they like. Go early and meet them, too. So they don't freak out when the parents leave.
If all else fails, Simon Says is great.
Simon Says: Sit down and shut up.
Simon Says: Zip your lips.
Simon Says: Be quiet and read that book.
