Until the disgraceful 1974 County Boundries Act, which took away a lot of our identity, the above was the correct title for Newcastle. Can someone name me the other British cities that had similar titles? I know that Hull was one, but I don't know it's correct title. Liverpool, big city though it is, had no such title. I believe there were 12 cities altogether with a City and County title.

and yes the 74 act was disgraceful as newcastle should have remained part of northumberland

did you know newcastle airport isnt in newcaslte? it isnt even in the same county ?

Well not sure if this is what you mean but Gisborough, (yes that WAS the spelling) used to be the Aincent capital of Cleveland.
Now it is just a small market town that hardly anyone has heard of!
