Well sin is, as far I am concerned not a correct term.
Whatever we do it is allotted to our so called Karma. This Karma has to be paid out by ourselves or it can be erased by mercy of Him/Her/It/....!
Karma means the law of action and reaction. Direct translation (more close) it seams to be - ACTION!
So killing a man means big lot of Karma.
Killing a mammal a smaller sin.
Killing a fish even smaller, etc....
So to kill the mouse it will effect you. But if you will not kill it now you will probably have to kill many of them. You have to do what you have to do. Check your actions for the long range.
Hurting the filings of others, causing pain, etc... is what we will have to pay one day. The fly have a very limited amount of awareness. This means that killing the fly is not a very terrible think.
We people are strange: We might be worried to kill a fly but not worried when we hurt other fellow creatures!

Thou shall not kill means that thou shalt not kill human beings without good reason. Since a horsefly isn't human it isn't a sin. Now if the horsefly was somebody else's pet then it would be stealing. You stole a life from the person. But you did not commit a sin.

Peace,
That depends upon belief system you choose. But I am sure that if he deserved it then you'll be alright.
The Jain religion in India does believe that killing any animal by any means is a sin. That includes killing the fly by accidentally inhaling it.

Well there is no hope for me, I might as well end it all now, if killing a fly is a sin.
I have killed, flys, slugs, fleas, beetles, head lice, in fact thousands of bugs in the last 30 years.
I am so doomed.

it is for the fly i suppose, and all the babies it's left without a mother. seriously I have often thought about this, if i can i always catch insects and let them go free. after all we all share this planet and who is to say which creature has the most right to live on it. you never hear about flies invading another country or launching rockets at ants.

you have to kill them, because they breed off of S H I T. so, if you have any catlitter boxes or any reason to have s--t around. get rid of it and trash that is laying around. its not a sin, its a symptom.
