I should have given a little bit more information about my cat. She seems to spray only when she is in heat. (Lately it seems she is in heat alot more than usual. Thats another question.. how many times does a female cat go into heat?) She does use the litter box, and she seems only to spray in certain areas... only in corner, (and here recently on my counter top.... grrrr). Would fixing her help? Could she still have an infection?

Getting the cat fixed is a MUST!!!! If you want any chance of stopping it, GET HER FIXED NOW!!!!!!!! I am telling you, she still may spray after, but she needs to be spayed!!!

I have boy and girl cats and have dealt with the same thing. My cats are spayed and neutered so I had to look up about the "going into heat" question. What I found was that female cats go into heat basically in the warmer months, which is why yours is "turning it on" so to speak. According to the website I list below she should quit the heat cycle around Sept or Oct.

As for spraying the house...that is something I STILL deal with, with MY cats. Every once in a while they will not use the litter and instead use a spot in the house for no apparent reason. But with cats......there is ALWAYS a reason. Sometimes they need their litter box changed(mine won't use a dirty litter box). Sometimes they are upset about something (a new pet in the house, a new baby, moved furniture, a NEW house, ect.) And sometimes they are simply ticked at you.....my cat Gable ALWAYS uses my carpet as a bathroom after a visit to the vet. It never fails.

Unfortunately, once they spray somewhere their scent is there and they will continue to go back there....they think it is a NEW acceptable litter box. Try to get the smell out of the area as best you can (especially if it is carpet.) Remove the rug or piece of furninture if THAT is what the cat was spraying....otherwise, they'll just keep coming back. Fixing her might help some....but if you don't get her scent out of her sprayed areas....she'll go back to them.
