The world spins, the sun rises, the sun sets, wars all over the world break out everyday. Isn't the circle of life beautiful. So why is it that millions of people worldwide, still believe in stories written over 2000 years ago, which is the main problem of the world today?

I think it's the other way round.....people let religion control them.

It's not. It would be more true to say that religion is controlled by the world.

Look at how just in the Catholic church there have been lifting of standards. This is true in the Christian denominations as well. What once was considered "wrong" is now being allowed and sometimes even encouraged. Divorce, homosexuality, and abortion come to mind readily, but there are others.

I'm not saying that we should be harsh here--I'm merely pointing out that the world has been placing demands on religion over time and religion is starting to follow the wishes of the world.

I think you need to look into this war thing a bit closer. It's not really about 'stories written over 2000 years ago'
It's about man's greed.. someone wants what the other has..
t's also about control.. Remember those big bully's we all had in school as we were growing up.. it's not one country that's doing all this either.. but all countries.. one way or another.

I really do tire of people who blame all the world's ills on religion, and they don't even begin to comprehend the deep mystery that is found in religion and how it awakens the sense of wonder and awe.

It's not religion that is the main problem. It's people not "getting it" when it comes to religion. Religion is supposed to stimulate that "WOW" moment at all of life, and if it's not doing that, then you aren't walking your religion properly.

Don't blame religion just because a few idiots are slow on the uptake. And remember: Josef Stalin was an atheist.

Lust, greed and anger are the three gateways to the problems of the world today, including hellish war, sectarian religious dogma is used as a political vehicle to achieve worldly objectives. The essence of real religion or spirituality is completely detached from these hellish activities, it is relevant to the circle of life that you perceive to be beautiful, the source of that beauty is the real goal of life.

I don't think it is the stories but the way the are interpreted. People need to believe. They need direction and they need to know that you go somewhere when you die. Perhaps it s time for one "religion".
A set of standards that can apply to everyone on this Earth. Ths is 2006 yet nothing much has changed...if anything it gets worse.
We should be caring about everyone and everything, instead we have too much greed and ignorance. Will it ever change?...I doubt it.

I think it's because rational thought does not come easily to most people - Their wishes and fears are stronger and more emotionally compelling than an honest perception of reality. Of course, for some people organised religion is just a cynical way to control others, in order to achieve wealth, power and prestige for themselves, and far too many are still falling for it.

some people think that if they do not obey they're religion they face the wrath of they re god or they will have a terrible life like when Jewish people have to eat meat the precess it in a funny way by bleeding it and things like that and if it is not processed then they have to pray for there gods forgiveness so its all about there gods but wars happen because of oil and gold etc not religion

It is not controlled by money. The world is controlled by the BELIEF in the value of money. Just as religious people are controlled with the belief in religion. Both are actually worthless when you really think about them.

It's a crutch. Atheists are like the handicapped people that get by and when someone tries to help they say "Leave me alone, I'm fine by myself." People who believe in religions are the people who are handicapped who take all the help they can get because they're too afraid to try and do things on their own.
