Translated, Emmanuel means "God with us." There's a round about complicated reason why Mary called him Jesus. Best to Google the name Jesus...you get better explanation.

Gabriel never told Mary to name the child Emmanuel, he told Mary that others would call him Emmanuel. Emmanuel basically means "equal with God", or "God with us". Jesus means "God saves" from Jehovah meaning God the creator. Jesus is another version of Joshua which means Jehovah saves.

Okay you need to stop being such a literalist Emmanuel means "The Anoited One" not a name but a statement your child will be called emmanual or anoited one so it's not like John, Luke etc it is a description. The angel that appeared to Joseph was the one that instructed the child to be named Jesus, keep reading
