always give them what they want even if you personally do not like that food, i have opened 5 restaurants from scratch and would spend weeks before hand looking at what nearby businesses are serving and take into account the type of food eaten in that part of the country. Offer baby food for free and facilities to heat baby bottles for the mothers.
With the more expensive meals offer free drinks or a cake etc.
DO make sure you have proper takeway containers with cutlery... not everyone will have time to stop.
Good luck..... expect long hours and hard work.

Make sure you're coffee tastes good and reasonably priced. Make sure that the servings are fair enough for your prices. Make sure that your bar hosts are friendly and always smiling, smart and sensitive to the different moods of customers.
Make sure that if a customer had special needs or specific tastes in coffee, your bar hosts can accommodate it and never say "no we don't have that here" or "no, we don't make that here with our coffees".
Make sure that your music isn't too loud or too soft and make sure its good music not hard rock, alternative or something that only gangbangers would listen to. Make the ambiance of your cafe comfy and informal to relax people who patronize your cafe.
If you have smokers outside the cafe, make sure that the ashtray is changed every 3-4 sticks used.

dont employ cheap immigrant labour.
have someone who speaks clear english.
make your staff want to serve people and enjoy serving people.
make your staff aware that if they are not looking as though they enjoy what they do people will not return and this will impact on your and theirs pay.
there is nothing worse than bieng served by a bored teenager with an attitude the size of a cappuccino and makes you wonder that the job they does is the worst in the world. making you think theyre bieng paid really low wages for the expensive beverage theyve just slopped all over your table..
you could offer sex to get the crowds in. that always works...:)

give out leaflets, post them through houses and local shops that sell stuff completely different, if they want lunch they'll pop over to cafe or try and advertise you cafe in local papers a good one could be Metro as people who go to work early would love to get some coffee and take away breakfast to eat or some may want to sit in
Try to advertise in other shops like newsagents
hope this helps! xx

very clean toilets are always a great way to make people remember you. there is nothing worse than a dirty toilet in a food place. cracked tiles, dirty corners, bad smell. Even if the food is great and you smile all the time - that is the one thing that puts doubts in peoples minds. Its like the kitchen, you can make food look and taste fab, but it is what is in the background and the attention to detail behind the scenes that really counts.
