I'm pretty sure the reason one should not put bananas in the fridge is because the bananas will ripen to fast.

I have and do put bananas in the refrigerator. I don't put in fresh green/yellow banans BUT when they start getting small brown spots, I will put them in the refrigerator. The skin turns black quickly in the refrigerator but the inside seems to stay fresh longer than if left out.

Bananas are tropical fruit. They are not like oranges and apples. Bananas will turn bad in cold environment. However, they cannot be in an envionment too hot. They will ripe too quickly and they will turn bad too.

Because they're a tropical fruit and thrive in warm weather. In cold weather(or the fridge)they would die.

I didn't know you shouldn't, I know they seem to go bad quicker, but it's better than fruit flies taking up residence in the squelching hot summer heat, from leaving them out on the counter!

They turn brown quicker...I prefer mine chilled however so usually buy just a few, barely ripe, and eat them before they turn...
