Pros- Parents don't have to spend on the latest fashions. If parents are in financial need this is a huge help. Students are not judged on their clothing. what will I wear today question is quickly solved. Eliminates the distraction of some clothing choices.
Cons- Lack of creativity and individuality. Children can be judged on finacial means and fashion appeal. For needy families the strain of purchasing uniforms all at once at the begining of the year for a campus that has just converted to using school uniforms can be quite daunting.

I think it is a great idea. But would boys have to make their own uniforms, too? (LMAO)
Seriously, though, there's a lot to be said for school uniforms. A kid doesn't have to think about how he or she looks; you all dress the same, you can forget about comparisons. It would eliminate the constant battle over styles that go too far, such as boys whose pants seem threatening to fall off, or girls who look like they are for rent. And in general, I think parents would spend less on uniforms (even if they were not made in home ec. class) than they currently do on following the constantly changing fads.
The downside is really the same as the up-side. Yes, you would dress all the same, but wouldn't that also make students feel the need to do something else (some inappropriate behavior, for example) to distinguish him or herself from the other students? Would it mitigate against individuality in an unhealthy way? And while a supply of uniforms may indeed cost less than some parents spend at the mall, what of the parents who are making do with the thrift stores?

It's compulsory here in Australia for students to wear a uniform. The main pluses are that it identifies a student as being from a particular school if they do something wrong in public ( so they can be identified) and also it means there isn't the constant fashion show competition going on with parents being asked to buy the latest fashions every few months! Also, parents on a tight budget can buy used uniforms without anyone being aware of it. Con could be a so-called restriction of freedom to express yourself ( but then why do you need to do it at school?). Hope this helps!

Pros, Everyone wears the same clothing, no kids being made fun of because they have k-mart jeans or hand me down clothes. Pro, saves parents money from having to buy two wardrobes of street clothes.. Uniforms won't be worn after school and ruined.. The only bad thing I can think of is that kids don't get to show some indivisuality, but hey, ther are alot of other avenues to express that, and with a little leewqay in accesorizing, this still can be accomplished, my daughter fares well.

Pros: it gets rid of sterotypes, and kids who maybe dont have as much money will finally fit in. no worries about what to wear, just put it on and go. makes school more of a level playing field.
cons: kids may complain about not being able to exress themselves.
I went to a school where we didnt wear uniforms, but often thought that it may actually be nice. as much as i like wearing what i want, it would be a nice concept. no more having to look at the fat chicks in belly shirts, or deal with people asking if im a satan worshipper just for wearing a black tee shirt. no more of the "i wear $300 jeans so im better than you" mentality

Con- Suddenly students will actually have to rely on personality to become popular and cool.
They are useless outside of school.
Pros
Less distraction,
less violence, gang colors and violence attributed towards clothing
Less money and time- no longer having to decide what to wear, parents not spending money for their kids latest trend. but then again the uniforms are costly.

- It's a way to discipline the students coz making it mandatory would mean that it is a rule that they have to follow.
- It make sure that students have good moral, i.e.: they won't wear clothes that expose too much skin in school.
_________________________
- Students do not look good at all in uniforms.
That's all I can think of. Hope that helps.
