Yes, he should, but then he is only human too...

I think if a priest/preacher is going to be a leader of the community they must be in the community. If he/she is going to give council in regards to marriage or to marry a couple then he/she must be married. No amount of training or studying can show them how to do this in the real world.

Should he/she be pious, absolutely. Why would you want a hypocrite telling you how you should live. Should he/she be pure, this is the real world, you are not going to find someone like that.

As far as the adultery and pedophilia in the churches these days. This is what you get for repressing the sexuality of priests/preachers. They may answering a higher calling but they are still human and must deal with their human nature, not ignore it.

A priest or a pastor should set the example for others to follow just as Christ did, however remember that priest and pastors are still sinners just like the rest of us and all of us can be tempted or weak where sin is concerned. That don't make it right but we are all born with the sin nature and we will always have it, but we are to strive to overcome it, but being a priest or a pastor doesn't make you exempt from sinning.

Because what you're forgetting is that priests and ministers and bishops and whatnot are - first and always - fallible human beings.

Remember, Romans tells us that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. That means ALL of us, including you. What this is saying is that none of us are perfect, so pointing fingers at someone else's sinfulness while ignoring your own is counterproductive.

Do not concern yourself with the motes in someone else's eyes until you've dealt with the beam in your own eye. You may not be a child molester, but there are other sins you're guilty of, so don't be too quick to condemn someone else.

In this persons opinion you must realize and understand that the ordained of any church are obviously human beings and being such are subject to the frailities of being human. They are not in any way perfect beings and are subject to making the mistakes that humans make.

Their religous training does give them a better chance of being error free but that does not make them perfect, they cannot walk on water. By training and experience they are EXPECTED to set good examples for their congragations and followers. As we all know there are good and bad in all people and walks of life. Priests are no different.

Unfortunately as with the Catholic priests they are not allowed to marry and have sexual relations, which no doubt causes them to stray from their beliefs and training. History will tell you that in ancient times homosexuality and pedophilia were commonly accepted practices. Society has advanced and now rejects those practices.

Quite frankly, one must first define his own religous beliefs and determine where he stands with that belief and wether or not he will follow it to the letter. Take for instance the current Islamic problems in the middle east. Their good book tells them not to kill, etc., etc., yet they are doing it on an international scale and calling it a "HOLY WAR" did god single them out and give them permission to kill in his name ??? I don't think so.

There is no definitive answer to your question, it only produces more questions that have no answers. You must in your own mind be satisifed and content with your beliefs.

They can not be pure, they are humans, no man has ever been pure but Jesus.

This is no excuse for what they have done, I think the priesthood has been a hiding place for many very bad people. However most are good men with good intentions but none of them are pure.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

I'd like to go a little farther...I think we ALL need to set an example of purity and piety. What you see in the news is representative of a sinful people as a whole. It bothers us more when it is found inside the church because we expect the church to lead the way. Priests have a very difficult time for a couple of reasons.

First, if a priest is following tenets or beliefs that revolve around doctrine, rather than a relationship with Jesus Christ, there is no internal motivation to do right. If, for example, I have a living, loving relationship with Christ, my motivation will be to please him wherever I go. On the otherhand, if I am simply trying to live up to a standard I read about in scripture, I will find it easier to fail. I will be comparing myself to others around me (Gee, I'm not as bad as THAT guy!). Pleasing God requires me to compare myself to him who knew no sin. It causes me to evaluate what his death on the cross meant and I realize how much I need him.

To go on, if I am comparing myself to those around me, I begin to see sin as not so much a sin anymore. I will rationalize what I see. There's no conviction, or if there is, I quickly dismiss it.

Lastly, if I am more segregated from society-where I live, etc., I am able to hide things about myself. My accountability isn't as reliable. In a growing spiritual church body, accountability is viable. That doesn't mean we go around pointing fingers at each other. Rather, we see growth in each other and it encourages us to grow as well. We lift each other up.

Every single one of us was created in God's image. It's up to all of us to reflect that image back.

Hi!

First of all I would like you to know that after Christ died, He made us all "priests"...so there is no such thing as a "priest of a church":(Revelations 1:6)

People who usually call themselves "priests of church denominations" are usually from orthodox churches that no longer have the power of the Holy Spirit in them. The Born-again Christians know that everyone who gave Himself to Jesus is a "PRIEST".

Why I am drawing this to you?

I would like you to note the difference between someone who calls Himself a Christian and probably knows a lot about Christian history but IS NOT A CHRISTIAN and a real "Christian" who is born of the Holy Spirit....

This is not some religious belief, it is a real experience of the Holy Spirit coming into a person.(Read the book of Acts in the bible)

Please check my question on What Christianity is...it's one of my recent questions...

We should NOT allow the world to think that those BAD GUYS who rape children and molest them and find themselves working in some orthodox church, are born-again!(John 3:3).They are not born-again!O!Yes they call themselves "Priests" but that is NOT what a true "priesthood" is!

We all need to be as pure as possible.
Concerning the priests and preachers you are referring to,
Christ said you can judge a tree by it's produce. So does that tell you the true heart condition of the sexually disturbed 'men of cloth'?

When Christ used that example, he was referring to the religious leaders of his time also.

So are really expecting someone who is not God to give you the real answer. Come on man you know every answer you get is gonna be someone's opinion and not the truth because only God knows why they did it. But I'd be lying if I said I'm not intrested to see some of these opinions.

i think so.. they should set a good example. cant imagine that they preach the gospel and say the homily during the mass and commit such act as you have mentioned/posted as a priest and pastor.

they too are humans and weak so they should better get out as priest or as pastor. the vocation is not meant for them
