I don't think it's a problem with tap water as he'll drink water dripping from the hose, or that's left on the decking after I've watered the garden. He drinks from muddy puddles, streams and even from my glass if I leave it on the floor but never from his dish. It's not a great problem but if I go out in this hot weather and leave water in his dish I'm worried he won't drink enough.

1. Don't leave your dog outside in hot weather.
2. Buy a different type of bowl (maybe his dog tags knock against the bowls an it scares him).
3. There this item that you hook up to your outside faucet and you teach your dog to drink from it (like a bottle on a hampster cage).

Does you dog have a collar and tags on? Is it a metal dish? The clanking of tags on metal dishes disturb some dogs...you can wrap tape around the tags, remove the collar or use a plastic dish to help.

Change the water daily, change bowls, ice cubes in the bowl in this heat good idea too. Let him drink from a running tap whenever you can. Our lab used to like putting her head in a bucket of water!

You can buy small pump as used in small water features to give your dog a running water effect. I saw this idea on "it's me or the dog" programme. They had the same problems with their doggy not drinking from the bowl!!

I'm guessing that you change it regularly so its reasonable fresh.

Next step might be to ask a vet, especially if anything is different about him - my friend's dog wouldn't drink from his dish, turned out it was kidney failure and something in his saliva contaminated the water so next time he drunk from the same dish, it was really bad for him. He died from it, so I wouldn't want anything like that to happen to your baby...

I was told that they will drink water from anywhere if their thirsty enough and have no access to another source. My cat likes to drink from the toilet and only drinks water from her dish when its bottled. I'm sure if no access to any other she would drink from her dish.

What kind of dish is it? Plastic? Get stainless steel. Small? Get a large one. Keep it full of fresh water, toss in some ice cubes.
