Yes, and stupid as well as it doesn't exist.

Fear is a great tool for the religious nutjobs in the world. Fear mixed with ignorance increases the chances of someone becoming a believer and there is no other group as ignorant as young children. They look to their parents and authority figures for knowledge and guidance. Your Sunday school class is taking advantage of this relationship and their ignorance and using it to indoctrinate them into its belief system.

Catholics are notorious for this, they have a series of rituals intended to reinforce the religious crap they spread throughout a persons life. Theres Baptism, First communion, confession and confirmation. Other Christ Cultists sects use segregation (home schooling or Christian schools) to ensure people stay ignorant and dare not question what they are being told or get exposed to other ideas like science and other facts.

Yes, teaching any child at such a young age anything about religion amounts to brainwashing, since they dont have the mental capacity to realize that Santa or the tooth fairy aren't real, indoctrinating them with religious mumbo jumbo seems to be an insidious act denying them a chance to make their own conclusions about the world and what is real and what is myth.

Maybe not evil, just unthinking about the consequences--nightmares, panic attacks, etc. I know because when I was told about the rapture as a child I had to check on my parents for years in the middle of the night cause I was afraid they had been taken and I was left. Also, some people are just stupid or mean. One person told my sister when she was in Kindergarten that our brother was going to hell for getting kicked out of school and upset her terribly. They need to think!

scares me too, but I think it's the parents job to teach their children morals and dogma the way they want to and of course when they grow up they will find their way, we can only hope. I don't have kids but if i did I would appose what they are doing in that Sunday school you speak of. there's a better way than scare tactics to promote God and Hell.

I think kids should learn about God at a young age but I don't think it should be put to them in a way that will scare them. They are young and can not fully understand it anyway. The teacher's should wait until they are a little older and not put it to them so graphic.

It's not evil, but it's not a good thing to teach such young kids. They need to be taught the love of God. I'd recommend talking to your pastor about it. He may not even know what's being taught in the kids classes.

not all sunday schools do that. when i was about 5 i went to a sunday school that taught that. when my mom found out, she found another church. i grew up fine. i have faith in god and i am successful in life now. i will not judge the meathod of a churches teaching, but there are other ways then scaring children.

I have been to many church's and have never seen or heard of this being done. I think you are greatly exaggerating.

Plus We warn children about fire, crossing the street, wild animals, pools is that bad to scare them????

If hell is a real place shouldn't we warn them about hell also?

Of course it's evil. It's just the same as boogeyman threats. In fact, that's a significant part of the basis for Christianity... the boogeyman.

Oh Gosh... Excellent question.

Personally, I am non-theist.

NEVER I would scare children about "hell". Gosh...

I think that children must be protected from mind manipulation.

Shame on those who scare children with such beliefs.

Telling lies to children is never justifiable. Scaring them with lies is one of the few truly evil things in the world.
