Not in SA. My husband got a full 3 days! Woopi! I really needed him a bit longer especially since I had a ceaser and wasn't allowed to drive but still had to get my son to school while trying not to tear my stitches and having a new born scream in the back seat because she wants to be fed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As you can see I still have some unresolved issues relating to this. lol

According to the Family and Medical Leave Act, yes. However, this is only in regards to unpaid leave. There is no requirement for paid leave. Some states and employers have different rules, so check with your Human Resources Department.

It depends on the employer. My husband is a teacher and therefore an employee of the state of New Jersey. His female counterparts get 28 day maternity leave. He gets nothing. The time he took off when our daughter was born counts against him as sick days.

As for men not needing time off... it wasn't really him that needed the time off. It was that I could have used his help, support and presence during the first few weeks.

Who says that it's suppose to be "equal" treatment.

After all their guts didn't split open and the most "near death" experience of a person's lifetime !! And they're not breast feeding, - why should they have 6 weeks off??.

"Equal" treatment is not the goal, - "equitable" treatment is the goal!!

no!!!!!!!! the way ist's set up sucks!!!there are some good fathers out here. and the system is so screwed up they think all dads are deadbeats and that's not tru not one bit. we have alot pf deadbeat momas out here. but society ignores that. just because she carried the baby for 9 months or whatever. give me a break.
my opinion dads should have just as much paternal rights as the moms. thumbs up> to great dads.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think so.. . . gosh.. just to think the women undergo during delivery its so painful so the women deserves the longer period of time for maternity leave than the "men" for their paternity leave.
