There is no best - though I love my 2 goldens.
Depending on your situation there will be certian types of dogs that work best for you.
The following all come into play:
1. What do you want from you dog: One that will play fetch, one that will nap on the couch with you, one that you kids can play with, one that will guard your house.
2. Where do you live - big house, tiny appartment?
3. What space is there for the dog to exercise: big yard, small yard, park down the street?
4. What size dog do you like - big, medium, small?

Depends what for!
If you want a dog to live in your apartment and carry under your arm, then maybe a rottie is not for you, then again, if you want a dog to go out hunting and retrieve game, then a pug would be rather pointless
Different breeds have different strengths, although any well trained well loved dog should be a good friend.

Depends on what you are wanting the dog for. I have 2 Pit bulls and a St. Bernard. My oldest Pit is by far the best dog I have ever had. Don't listen to what others say about how mean they are. Its all in how you raise them. Mine is as gentle and loving. She is protective don't get me wrong she can show her aggressive side if she feels she needs to. If your thinking of getting any dog though read and learn about them and make sure you have the time and attention to give to them.

Mini Goldendoodle !! You get the best of two dogs....the loyal, loving, gentleness of the golden retriever in a smaller less shedding version !!! They're also the smartest dog I've ever owned !!

That is a matter of persoonal taste and opinion. Which ever breed, or mutt, speaks to your heart is the best for you.

it all depends on what you are looking for.
I personally LOVE my Catahoulas (http://www.catahoulas.org, photos on my site http://www.zeropointe.net) but they are a rare breed to come by.
Otherwise? Go with a mutt.. Less health problems.

i like a lot of breeds but my fav is a German Shepherd cuz i have 1 n love him lots good luck byees :)

All of them, it depends on what person you are and where you live, if you got a yard, if you can feed it, if you can walk and play with it, if you can afford it!
