Im sure that was a must in the 1700's - mid 1930's but not anymore.

If a woman was wearing it very short skirt or dress with no underwear, it would make logical sense if the seating area is a very open area.

Most women wear jeans, or pants and if (say in a fancy restaurant) a woman was asked to cross her legs, CNN would have the story within an hour and 2 days later would have a special CNN presents on 'womens rights through the times'.

A lady is less likely to fall over if she crosses her legs when seated than if she crosses them when she is standing. Some people feel that only Christian ladies should cross their legs. When a lady crosses her legs, she should put right over left unless she is left-handed. Ladies who cross their legs often get more cake at parties. In the Dark Ages ladies who crossed their legs were sometimes burned to death as witches.

She should cross her legs at the ankle when seated, and have them tucked under to the right or left of the chair legs, especially when wearing a dress such as the one you are wearing in the picture.

In modern times, a lady might cross her legs at the knee, but should keep her legs pulled slightly under the chair seat. She should never cross her legs so that one leg is horizontal to the floor while sitting on a chair.

Traditionally, a lady crosses her legs by putting one foot behind the other while angling her body slightly to the side, thus crossing her legs at the ankle. Posture should be straight as she sits in the chair. No leaning back.

A lady should definitely cross her legs when seated...That's just proper.

fair enuf, If she has only got a skirt on , then yeah fair enuf, It might be more reasonable if she did sit with here legs closed, or crossed, but if she got pants or anything on like that, then I dont see why she should have to sit with her legs crossed.
