Go and see a certified hypnotherapist with NLP certification. you will feel and immeiate benefit.
I know of dozens of people who hav got off anti depressants by going down this route. You yourself say you have been on them for 6 years...... can you still beleive that they work for you?????
Anti depressants reduce your ability to experience an extreme depressed state, but the flip side is that it doesn't just work with depression, it stops you feeling true happiness, joy, euphoria etc.
Some anti depresants even warn you off certain food in case of FATAL consequences??? WTF???? Get off them, you have everything you need to live life without these dangerous drugs messing with your neurochemical balance! Some people just accept side effects as there seems to be no other way. Be cleverer than that, expore non-pharmaceutical measures, there are plenty!
If you had a leaking roof, and your bucket catching the drops was full, would you go out and buy a bigger bucket or plug the leak??
The leak is emotional issues that need dealing with, anti depressants just mask those feeling, they do not help you get over them and gain closure. The Hypnotherapy/NLP route is painless, drug free and helps you to grow as a person by freeing yourself from the issues of the past.
Go plug that leak, you don't need a bigger bucket!
I wish you good health!

Since Prozac started to be sold as the “happy pill", a lot of research have been made in the field of depression, resulting some other drugs as safe as Prozac-drug name fluoxetine-belonging to the same family and with other features that might help you out.
Chronically depression is indeed difficult to treat, since involves psychological and physical symptoms that are every day more frequent in our society and harder to treat.
Nowadays there is a complete family of new derivates from fluoxetine, which can be chosen once your case had been properly analyzed. I wonder if you ever have tried a combination of psychotherapy and antidepresives from the type fluoxetine?
The faster that I know is Escitalopram- ex. Brand name Lexapro -, that might start work within a week with some remarkable results and pretty selective. This is a drug that belongs to the same group than fluoxetine-Prozac- and some advantages over the nearest drug Citalopram.
First of all, no one of these medications can be taken without responsible medical advice, since overlapping antidepresives and adding over the counter medication can become very dangerous.
I think that the best choice that you might have - safety, efficiency and speed - can only be achieved by combining new generation drugs belonging to the fluoxetine type, plus following a therapy that helps you out to find THE REASON why you are already chronically depressed.
Magical solutions doesn't exist, but if you are honest with yourself and really want to get out finally to live a more worthy life, then go for the cause of your depression, in the meantime you can have the support of the medication and a good psychotherapy.
Exercising seems to be an excellent third factor that depending on your physical condition you can use in order to get healed.
I wish you success,
Fro

I would suggest that you go back to your doctor if your medication isn't working properly. Alternatively you could try a homoeopath instead of a regular doctor, see if that helps.
I'm pretty sure there is not a drug that will work within one hour though. Also, counselling might speed things up for you, your medication treats the symptoms but not the cause of your depression I guess. - A good counsellor would treat the cause.
I wouldn't recommend that you try illegal drugs as someone has previously posted (although I'm guessing they were only joking anyway), because the 'come down' after taking these, as with alcohol will depress you further and aggravate your condition I would guess.
Good luck.

I'm afraid not. Most take at least two weeks to kick in. Some people swear by St. John's Wort, a herbal remedy which boosts serotonin levels. It's natural and it seems to work for some people. Have you thought about trying to live medication free for a while? I know it's a big struggle and I wouldn't be recommending it unless you'd said the medication wasn't working for you. It really depends if the source of your depression is an imbalance of chemicals, in which case, medication is the only way to redress it, or is symptomatic of trauma in your life, or in your childhood.
I have depression, tried anti-depressants but the side effects were more depressing than life so I gave up (they caused me not to be able to ejaculate and since my sex life with my wife is an important part of my life, I decided they were not for me!). Since then, it's been a rocky road, but it is working out and I'm staying as positive as possible.
Like I said, if you'd said medication was working for you, I would have said stick with it, as some people on medication really are better people for it.
Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes, but there are some great people out there who care enough to help you out.
P.S. Just read another answer. It was Fluoxetine which caused my ejaculatory disfunction - there's your first bad report!

there are MAIO's Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors, like Nardil (phenelzine sulphate) which work quickly. however, they are used rarely, only after other treatments have not worked.
they work very quickly. some feel effects, a heightened mood the first day they take them even.
they are rarely given because you have to stay on a strict diet while taking them. you can't eat cheese for instance; because if you eat the banned foods you can have a severe reaction in which your blood pressure can go dangerously high, and even be fatal. if you have a reaction from eating the banned foods you can get immediate treatment though. you'll know, if you have a reaction because you will get a very severe headache, and probably nausea. that is something you must talk to your doctor and chemist/pharmacist with.
even so, the MAOI's are very well worth taking if other anti-depressants; or mood stabilsers have failed.
other drugs which are effective, are illegal and very dangerous to take. eg. cocaine, amphetamines. for instance,
they are extremely addictive. can cause severe psychosis. cocaine makes the depression worse when you come down off it, and you'll desperately want more.
amphetamines can have a long lasting effect on your personality.
i would warn you from taking this at all especially with depression. i have seen people develop mental illness like paraniod shizophrenia from continued cocaine use.
the same goes for marijuana, and it is not really effective as an anti-depressant. it is in fact classified as a CNS 'depressant'
i have never seen hypnotherapy work. other therapies would have to be in conjunction with medication. if your depression is that severe, you need medication at least at first. combined with therapy.

Fact - Going for a walk helps depression
Regular exercise too
Think about what gets you depressed and try and solve it. If you cant do that then take your mind of it with a hobby.
I dont know any drugs apart from prozac but i would only say to take that as a last resort.
Dont take cannabis it actually makes your depression worse and it can make you paranoid too

I suggest don't take any Anti Depressants.
They release fake hormones in to the brain, and most of them mess you up.
If you are depressed, then if it's possible try to relax for a while.
Do things that naturally make you happier, exercise, sex.. etc
And try to look on the bright side of life..
But don't self medicate anti depressants, and don't allow your doctor to give them to you..
Many cases of people on anti depressants where they have tried, or they have commited suicide.
And it takes a while to get off of them.

I too have been on them for years almost 6 years now. Nothing will have an effect that quick unfortunately. They work by changing chemical levels in your body and this cannot be done too fast or it will cause lasting harm.
