Hi, I do not have a net connection at home, would i be able to play half life 2 offline? i've heard that you need to have a net connection to play, if so is there anyway round it, all I want to do is buy a copy from the store and play the single player version at home.

No. In order to play you need a Steam account, and in order to have that you need an Internet connection. Sorry.
