Is this what the religionist's who were against advancing medical research had intended, or do they simply not think things through.
Instead of helping to save people suffering from Parkinson's disease & motor-neurone disease they will simply be trashed and slung in the medical waste bin.

In Europe the religionist's tried the same thing but failed, so research can continue to recieve funding over here.

Reply to Methuselah: For that matter all "lifestyles" lead only to death..that's one of the mandatory aspects of living unless you are deluding yourself, my morality is at very least in equally good a shape as yours I'd say. I'd hardly call myself militant, I say what I think is the truth and point out what is misinformation or lies.

I answered a question like this a while ago. It seems these christian dont really care whether the cells are destroyed but that it must not be never ever be destroyed by any scientists. So in their opinion, a garbage man who disposes of 400000 lives is considered okay. I wonder how any reasonable person can think like this.

Oh by the way, it's interesting that none of these christian answers dared to mention how those 400000 lives are being destroyed anyway. They either are stupid to figure that out or just cant put down their bibles. If they were so prolife why dont they try to save those embryos, too cheap or just stupid?

No wonder all those european countries are currently leading in the science community.

Hey Angel,

Please understand that the Papers and the News programs are in the business of making money and they will spew whatever crap will sell the most papers and the most air time!

His lordship G.W. Bush, vetoed a bill that would have APPROVED federal funding for NEW Stem Cell Research. It didn't stop the research. In fact, there are still two dozen lines of embryo's that are already approved and will continue to receive Federal Funding. Sadly, these are basically, "cloned" cells. Nothing more than donor "A"'s eggs, and donor "B"'s sperm. So any experiments will have the same result, embryo after embryo. There are currently several states that have started state funding of Stem Cells, sadly, all are in litigation.

But, chin-up! Write your congress, write his lordship, write your governor. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Just learn to be squeakier than the right wing ! (Think ACT-UP meets Cindy Sheehan !).

James

p.s. An Aside to Josh R. Josh, most stem cells used in Embryonic research are what is left over when Mrs. A would like to get pregnant and Mr. A is not able to plant the seed. The Fertility Clinic Extracts 15-30 eggs from Mrs. A, and then tests them for age and viability. They then take samples of Mr. A's sperm, test them for viability and strength. If both sides work out, then they fertilize all of the harvested eggs and put them in the deep freeze and wait until Mrs. A reaches estrus. When she is ready they implant 1 egg, and so on until she gets pregnant. Leaving the remaining eggs in the deep freeze.

If both sides don't work out, then they go for donor eggs and sperm. Repeat above steps, store balance in deep freeze.

If Mr. and Mrs. A really don't want to have all 30 or so kids, they have a little bit of waste to figure out what to do with. There are 30 or so fertilized eggs in the deep freeze, that should probably be sent down the drain, but it's medical waste, so you should package it or something.... So they put it in the same container with your bad kidney stones, or that abscess you had removed, or that fat you had sucked out this morning. Yup, all of it in the same hole!

B-T-W, not a whole lot of use for aborted babies! See once they're dead, they're....er.... well... DEAD! Unless they can figure out a way to freeze them before they are removed from the womb, they are kinda useless, well except for scaring the crap out of someone!

Thanks

The question is about how we value human life. Initially it might start as using the 400 000 embryos in stock. But imagine the pressure on an IV doctor to fertilize far more embryos than necessary just so that there are a lot more 'spare' embryos available for stem cell research. Also, you are talking about a hypothetical therapy that doesn't yet exist. I am sure we can find a more suitable source of stem cells for this kind of research.

i imagine that's basically not highlighted. i in my opinion have a difficulty with that too. anyhow, i imagine part of the outrage is that folk have a difficulty with authorities funding of embryonic stem cellular study. *enable me make sparkling...i don't love the concept of turning out to be a ton of embryos and purely "attempting" some. i don't comprehend the data like y'all notwithstanding the concept of it would not artwork for me. i'm not saying i'm hostile to fertility clinical care or couples attempting to be mom and father. (i'm hoping it is smart)

That's right, and you can thank Dubya for that. Just think - it was his first veto in 5-1/2 years... this administration has been hijacked by the fundamentalist Christians.

There is hope, however: if one of the senators/representatives who voted with the president is in your district, vote against them in November. There's always a chance the veto can be overridden.

They will be taken to incubators and brought to term in artificial wombs. They will be raised by government orphanages to be Super Conservatives. Trained by Black Ops scientists, they will seek out and destroy all threats to Democratic Society. However, they will find out about the One True Faith, the Church of the Subgenius, and become warrior-priest to the cause of 'Bob'. They will infiltrate and over-throw all the world's governments and create a single world government that follows the teachings of 'Bob' and the Subgenius Church. Then it will splinter, various groups will emerge, each with their own One True Version of the Subgenius teachings and another World War will happen.

Point is relgionists don't think or promote thinking, that way they wouldn't be able to control their blind followers. These followers don't think cos God will take responsibility for everything in the world and he will ultimately judge bad. yawn.

At the end of the day you start a riot and the morons will join in no amtter the consequences. Obviously as the majority Christians voted Bush I think it is clear what you can expect of them.

It is a terrible waste isn't it? Everyone wants to complain about all the waste but when someone says "Hey, lets do something with this to save humans from suffering." it is turned down and more waste is created.

How much more hypocritical can you get than allowing the abortion of a developed foetus and hindering research on embryonic stem cells?
