Then the door to hell is ajar. Can you really be serious for this once and try and compare God's law to all this human and obnoxious laws that we've made?
God's law are so suiting and regulating and perfect. Man's law is failing and getting amendment to make it cosmetic.
Without God we are failing and falling flat on our faces. The human brain is not perfect enough- not good enough to make a engender a peacesful and warless world.
God only send us thither to come and spend a few years and return to give account and if we suceed to live an eternal life in paradise. If we fail [may God forbid] to live a total damnation.
Think this carefully. harmony in God's existence and chaos in government of the people- not possible anywhere- because God is the law giver and majority cannot think and never think straight- take a census and give me one single nation with majority rule?

I often think on the words to that song when I here them, and on the consequences of living according to the way he describes.

"Imagine... living for the day?"

If everyone lived just for the day, they would all strive with all their might to get the best for themselves for that moment; and that would mean they wouldn't care about anyone else, or the consequences their actions might bring for the future.

Some things that give pleasure for the moment, bring disaster for the future.

A real simple example that everyone can relate to: drinking to excess. You might feel great while doing it, but tomorrow you'll wish you hadn't.

Religion teaches us moderation. Life should be fun, but not at the expense of tomorrow or someone else's fun.

Rather, I imagine a world where people act out of respect and care for themselves and one another. That is what God wants and teaches through his Church. That's what religion is supposed to be about.

"Imagine... no heaven above us, no hell below?"

No reward and no punishment. Those who do you wrong, get away with it. The good that you accomplish, is never recognized. There is no advantage to doing better work than the slob next to you, it won't get you any promotion or increase in your salary.

Is this fair; is it just?

No, I imagine a world of justice -- where those who do their best, get the best, and those who slothfully float through life get what they've worked for, nothing.

God is just and fair to reward the good and punish the wicked. And that's what true religion teaches.

Imagine... how John Lennon felt when the man who shot him was living for the day, and not thinking of what God would do to him?

John Lennon wrote this song mirroring the communist manifesto, he was also greatly influenced by Eastern spirituality, as was George Harrison. To live in a totalitarian state, with no freewill to worship God in our chosen way, or not to worship God, if that is the individuals choice, would be an unappealing way of life, although many individuals may deride religious activity generically, to remove the right to worship would mean a society controlled by a dictatorship, where would that dictatorship end? The living entity will always have a natural and intrinsic requirement to reconnect with God, to remove the right to do so would be disastrous, when you realise that real religion means to develop love for God and compassion toward all living entities. Give Peace a Chance.

The issue here is people confusing the word "religion" with the word "faith".

Religions are a structure which has built up around a core set of beliefs. It often obscures and manipulates the true meaning of that core belief and leads to injustice, bigotry and can often lead to war.

People of faith have always tried to live to values such as loving their neighbour, treating people as they would wish to be treated etc. The problem is that when people get "Religion" without the sound foundations of faith, they can take on fanatical viewpoints and cause war, suicide bombings etc.

If there was no "religion" only "faith" the world would be a better place because the structures and constraints of religion do not allow the holy spirit to work freely within the hearts and minds of people and that is what is needed for the world to change for the better.

I still think that faith would exist, but on an individual basis and without the institutional label and written doctrine.

Everyone needs some kind of belief system, personal or otherwise, a structure to fall back on when times become rough. A lot of people take solace from the idea that there is some force mightier than themselves who is on their side. I think that that's all that having a religion should be about, instead of being a whip to torture other people who happen to disagree.

The real danger comes into being when people become too lazy to think for themselves and allow the religious doctrine to dictate what they should and shouldn't do, instead of weighing up the specific situation for themselves.

If your thinking it would be like Utopia, your sadly mistaken, man has worshipped Gods since the beginning of our existence.

Religion will always be , no matter what, the only problem is the idiots who believe in it be it Islam, Jewish, christian, catholic etc.
I myself never have time for any of them as its all man made chauvinistic bullshit.

God is not an Institution or a damn Corporation, yet when you visit Rome and see the Vatican you would think otherwise looking at all the wealth!
Yet a Priest is supposed to renounce all worldly goods and take a life of poverty..some ******* poverty!
The Vatican has more gold than Fort Knox looking at it! I myself am a humanist and believe that God and faith are an individual assessment of ones path in life, we all are spiritual beings, but I don't need a church to find that or myself!
I am my own Church...

Religion is necessary not everyone believes and that is also good. We have to have difference of opinions otherwise we would all be alike and that would be boring. But some people live for their religion without it they would be lost confused, it makes some people whole, without it some people would just fall apart from not having something to believe in. The belief in a God any God helps to calm the chaos in your life and in the world. Gives the person a sort of understanding of existence, Some minds without the understanding of existence believes that they don't!

God is the best thing that ever happened to man. If today man is above all other living beings, its because of God. I am NOT professing creationism. I do not belive God created us, but God has played the biggest role in our growth. How?

If the concept of God (a higher power) did not exist, there would have been none to keep people on the right path. God instills the fear that makes us think twice before doing something worng. God gives us hope in the most hopeless situations. God helps us forget our individual wants and work for the betterment of humanity.

Are you sure you do not want all these things? It is not religion that makes wars, its misguided poeple following blind faith. Its selfish people who take the guise of religion to further their own motives that cause wars in the name of religion.

I think there would be no hope. People would not have a sense of belonging and self respect or self confidence/importance. Having something to believe in gives you a sense of belonging and helps you strive to be a better person. This goes for any religion.

I think blaming religion for the wars is a cop out. People would still have differences. People would still put their own people under opression. Religion is not what drives Robert Mugabe to treat his people like animals in his insane dictatorship.

The war is about power, it is about oil, it is about people polishing their egos.

No more reasons for peoples stupid wars!

Do not get me wrong! As a military man I am all for protection of a country but fighting over a religion is some dumb sh1t!

People would go on living for the same reason they do now... each other!
