The main reason your Mom might not want you to have a dog is because she most likely thinks SHE will get stuck taking care of it. Before you talk to your mom realistically about getting a pet, sit yourself down and answer these questions yourself so you can talk to your mom about getting a pet....#1 why do YOU want a pet? All kids want pets, but can you reasonably have one? Do you live in an apartment? A house? Is there a place for the pet to go outside without being walked? Who will walk the pet? Who will clean up its poop? #2 what kind of pet do you want? A small dog? A large dog? Have you considered different dog breeds' personalities and needs? Some dogs do not do well without a lot of exercise. Some small breeds are good house dogs, but might bark too much and bother neighbors...#3 who will be the responsibile person to feed, train, and generally take care of this pet? If you cannot devote 100% attention to taking care of the pet, then it in effect will be someone else's pet, not yours, and if they don't want a pet, why ask them to get one?...#4 are you prepared to commit yourself to this pet? I don't know your age, but a dog generally lives 10-14 years. If you plan to go to college, etc, what will happen to the pet somewhere down the road?...#5 have you considered adopting a pet from an animal shelter instead of getting a purebred dog of your choice? This option would enable you to save a dog from being euthanized in a shelter. After you have thought about these things, and have truthfully figured out that this will by YOUR dog, and not just a pet you want when you feel like having it, you should be able to talk to your mom and give her good reasons for you to have this pet, and assure her that you will be a responsible pet owner, otherwise all you are asking her to do is allow you to have a pet when YOU feel like having a pet, and your Mom gets to take care of it the rest of the time. Good luck to you. I hope you do get a dog because there is nothing like having a dog best friend!!! But having a pet goes two ways, you love them, they love you, but YOU have to take care of YOUR pet, they can't take care of themselves.

Some of these answers are disturbing. Why do people find animals so disposable? Like some doll, you just leave alone when it doesn't excite you anymore. I cannot and do not want children, animals are my children.
I wouldn't just walk into an orphanage point at a baby, say I want that one, take it home and forget about it in a few months Or ship it back to the orphanage when i don't like it, it gets too big, boring or I just don't want it anymore.
Getting a pet is a HUGE decision. It should be a family event, it needs to be liked and wanted by everyone especially the person paying for it IE: your MOM and DAD. You can't just bring home a new baby brother or sister and expect mom to be happy about this.
This is why we have so many full shelters...

Having a canines needs to be a family individuals determination. If even one individual contained in the family individuals would not like the concept - no canines. Sorry, yet it is the way it needs to be to be truthful to any canines. once you get grown up and proceed to exist your own - you may have as many dogs as you opt for.

when i was younger, my mother didnt let my sister to have a cat... One day she just brought a small kitty home... My mom saw it and liked it, since then we have a cat.
Maybe you should try the same? Just bring it home and make sure it looks clean. Your mother will like it, and will not be able just to leave it out...

when i was younger, i wanted a cat and my dad would NOT allow it, so i teamed up with my friend and surprisingly got a kitten for my birthday. at my birthday party, there was no way he could tell me no, it would have been very rude to my friend!

Just get one anyway. Once it's there it would be down to her to get rid of it.
