Yes it could, but not by Russia. The only country that could occupy the USA is China. It's just a numbers game. If China decided to moblilize against the US (which it won't, and it would be a silly thing to do), the only thing that nuking China would achieve is mutual destruction (and thus the destruction of the entire world), as Chinas nukes (many of which are aimed at the US) would be automatically deployed, as would those of every other nuclear power.
So, China launch an invasion. First, they would have to gain air superiority. This would be extremely difficult as the US have the largest air force on earth. The only way this could be achieved realistically would require a decade or so of continued, undiscovered sabotage and infiltration. China would have to find a way of preventing the US AF from being an effective fighting force. Possible, but would take a lot of planning.
China would also need to do the same to the navy (US, again, have the biggest).
Assuming these things had both been done and that China had initiated conscription, the US would be screwed. Why? You may ask.
Like I said at the top, it's a numbers game. The US has a population of about 265million people. The total military population is about 2.5million. This would, of course, increase in the event of an invasion, but the total fighting force would probably never be able to rise above about 40million (or the country would simply shut down and starve).
China has the largest standing Army in the world (well over 3million, not including the Navy or Air Force, full time soldiers). They have an potential available fighting force of..... wait for it ...... some 350million men (if conscripted..... these are healthy men of fighting age). This is obviously far more than the entire population of the US. I don't believe any country, no matter how technologically advanced, could withstand an invasion from an army which outnumbers the entire nation.
What has also got to be taken into account is the size of the US. Much of it is extremely remote, and if the infrastructure was damaged to a certain degree, the nation would not be able to exist. It would collapse. The eastern seaboard would be able to retain some cohesion, as would the deep south, but once we cross the Mississippi we enter a land which is very sparsely populated. All the Chinese would need to do is simply march into Kansas, or Nevada, or North Dakota, or Nebraska and claim it as their own. There simply wouldn't be enough people to do anything about it. The exception, of course, is California. But any sensible strategist would get this out of the way at the beginning while your army was at it's strongest
So, yes, America could, hypothetically, be occupied by another country. But that country would need a lot of luck getting the Air Force and Navy out of the way. Also, it would be a completely insane thing to do for numerous reasons.

The USA Has Already BEEN Invaded

Antonio Gramsci was a young Italian Communist
who died in one of Mussolini's prisons in 1937
at the age of 46--
He Conjured up the notion of a 'quiet' revolution

to destroy it from within.
He was the first to suggest
that the application of psychology

morals, and will of a people

and without the possibility of resistance.
The American people need to understand that the United States is under attack! No, not by Iraq or Iran, but by MEXICO!
The MEXICAN GOVERNMENT

To Destabilize and Undermine
The very Fabric and Framework of American Society.

The U.S. is being Invaded
by People from Another Nation -
They Aren't Citizens --
They Don't Pay the Taxes --
Their ALLEGIENCE is to their HOME COUNTRIES
The INVASION Is Draining Our Resources
And Destroying Our Infrastructure
If WE THE PEOPLE Dont Do Something About It
These Invaders Can Prove To Be
More Dangerous To The USA Than Iran Or Iraq
Ever HOPED To Be
The OCCUPATION Of Several US States Has Already Begun
We Have Turned A Blind Eye
Because We Saw No THREAT
But That Leaves The Question
What IS A Threat??
Must We See Firefights And Shelling
To Percieve A Threat?
Are We THAT Shortsighted??

We could be defeated if the coalition was big enough. I don't think anyone has any real interest in striking at us in that manor. It would be just too costly and too long a war to get any real gains from it. However, I think that we would stand up to an extent if it did happen. You have to factor in that this war would be costly as all hell and would leave the countryside and the population in devestation. There wouldn't be too many "resistance movements" as most of the experienced military personnel would be POW's or killed. I think It would take several generations to completely pacify us though.
all in all it really isn't worth the effort. Its like us trying to occupy china or russia. screw that. I quick decisive victory will be what the opponent is looking for not a long drawn out war to suppress the usa. total annihilation of the usa would also be good strategy. The USA will be around for a long time. Eventually it will weaken and others wil be stronger. But we will always be strong enough to make it a b*tch to invade us.

Without exception "every" ruling nation has fallen, one day so to will we.
As for occupation, This is what the framers of the US Constitution had in mind when the 2d Amendment was instituted and the Anti Gun Lobbyist tries to change,
Simply there are wayy too many American citizens with guns to allow an easy occupation, Technology is great but currently Iraq and Syria are putting their foot in our asses with very low tech weapons As did Bin Laden Mujahadeen 20 years ago with Russia. I don't expect anyone to like the answer but that is the reality.
btw think about this the next time some idiot tells you the 2d Amendment "Meant" that "A well regulated militia" was our military forces, Americans are our "well regulated militia" "We the people" has never been interpreted as the military or the government, it has always been interpreted as the citizens of America.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Could America be defeated and occupied in the distant future, I suppose so if it were a power like China (not that they have the interest to do so). But, yes, it would be an uneasy and difficult occupation so I think that just our defeat would suffice in the eyes of the victor.
The prize for the next global war will be for economic domination; not the seizure of territory.

America is currently being subjected by a state sponsored invasion. Just because the troops do not wear uniforms, and are planning to achieve victory by the force of sheer numbers, Mexico is in the process of occupying America as I type.

America is a very expansive country, which means that any occupying army would be spread incredibly thin. An American insurgency (and believe me, there would be a very large one) would probably have a pretty easy time of disrupting the occupiers.

very good question, I think Iraq proves that question, yes it may be possible, but I think it would take more than one foreign military but when you have a determined and stubborn group of people it would be very difficult and what country is more stubborn and determined than ours. We have been exposed to freedom, something we would definitely no give up. Look at Iraq, never had the freedom we have and are still extremely difficult. I think it is possible we "could" be occupied but whoever did it would be sorely sorry they ever did it.

yes, and the possible invaders could be Russia, China, the EU or any other power joined with more others. America may be powerful but certainly can be overran in the future if it goes 2 far on its "war for peace"
