Why can't most of you answer in a loving way? Why so much bitterness?

Dear Rose :-)

I am a non-theist.

I can't speak on behalf of all atheists, but I can confirm you that most of them believe in Love & Life. They just don't need to refer to religious beliefs about this.

Why pretend that those who don't believe in religions live in a nightmare?!? Isn't this a myth from theists?

I know many atheists who believe in Life, who respect it.

Anyway, I acknowledge the fact that there are lots of atheists who deeply need to convince others about their beliefs, as well as most of religious believers do too.

There are intolerant atheists as much as intolerant theists.

I agree with a few of the other posters, your question defies a logical basis. There are many things that exist, though we can not see them.

Examples:

Gravity
Sound
air movement

Love is much the same way. One can not see it, yet it can be felt and expressed.

What is it, are you people so insecure, arrogant, self serving and self righteous that you must question things that are universal among many species. One need not be of any religion to feel and love, just as one need not believe in a religion to have ethics and morality.

It has been my experience that those that are of no part of a religion are far more ethical and moral than those that do proclaim to belong to a religion.

there seems to be a lot of immature misunderstandings about athiests. No, they dont "believe in nothing." they do not assume that something doesn't exist because they cant see it. these arguments are over-simplified excuses that religious people try to use to poke holes in an athiest's beliefs.

you can't just generalize something like God and love and slam them together in the hopes it will make sense. Love is an emotional response. it cannot be seen, but it's effects can be seen.

your very question is as silliy as asking an athiest "do you believe in wind? you can't see it?"

yes, athiests believe in wind. athiests believe in many things that they cant see. while each person's beliefs differ from one to another, it's pretty easy to mention some examples of "invisible" things that most athiests believe in.

1. air. air cant be seen, but it's pretty obvious we have it.
2. bacteria. most of our modern medicine focuses on these tiny creatures
3. atoms. without the atomic sciences and theories, most modern devices like cellphones, TVs, and computers would be unable to work.

stop generalizing things and start using your head before you attempt to attack someone about their beliefs. Usually athiests can defend their beliefs far more effectivly than any religious person.

The feelings associated with love are actually, and this is medically proven, a hormonal and chemical response. The same chemicals that give you the warm fuzzy feeling from being with your boy/girlfriend are distributed in the bloodstream during sex, eating chocolate, and hundreds of other things people find pleasurable. The emotional response is simply human nature "riding the high".

I am not Atheist but I am going to answer anyways. What do you mean you can't see love? I see love every day. I look at my kids. They are a product of my love for my husband. I look into their eyes and I see love for me every day. I look into my husbands eyes and see the love he has for me every day also. I can see love every time my mother picks up one of my kids and gives them a big hug and a kiss. Just the way she smiles at them screams love. You can see love every day. You need to open your eyes if you don't see love. What about the people you see going to the cemetary every day to talk to the loved ones that have passed on? Don't you think that is love? What about those people that go visit their parents when they are in a nursing home? Don't you think that is love? What about the people that spend years taking care of their parents so they don't have to go to a nursing home? Isn't that love? There are so many examples of love every day that you apparently are missing.

Is there some kind of contest going on now for posting the most idiotic question?

What kind of question is that, love is something you directly experience. Your question is equivalent to asking if we believe in hearing, even though we can't see hearing.

yah sweetie - emotions and ideas, including feelings of love, compassion, sympathy, etc. are a product of neurons and axons and tiny little electrical impulses flyin around in our brains. in fact handy little chemical reactions in our bodies gave us the imagination to come up with god in the first place =) i don't think dogs go to church, but i'm sure you've seen evidence of them loving
