You want them to reply a few weeks before the wedding, usually 3 weeks is good. It gives you enough time to get the seating chart finalized and you'll have enough time to call anybody that forgot to send in their RSVP card. Good luck!

I had people reply before 3 weeks before the wedding, and I am sending them out 8 weeks before the wedding day. I reason I went with 3 weeks, is so it would give me time to gather them all up and see who hadn't responded

Reply card tip: I numbered all my cards on the back in light pencil, and I recorded in my guest list spreadsheet which number I gave to which guest and sorted it by that. Then when the cards come flying in I will put them in number order and it will be so easy to see who's hasn't responded yet.

send the invitations 6-8 weeks before your "reply by date." The reason for this is; people tend to forget if you give them any more time to respond. In the end, you will get a mad dash of responses at the last minute. Trust me, you may want to send your invitations out super early, but it will cause you more problems.

Set the day prior to when you really have to know how many people are coming:

When do the caterer have to know?
When you have to know for seating the guests for dinner?

You also would like to spend some time seating people - who will sit where. So you need to know who is coming somewhat early when planning.

check with your caterer, or anyone else that needs a head count, try to get people to rsvp before the final date that you need a headcount, this will give you enough time to accumulate all invites back in plenty of time.

6-8 weeks !! And make sure you still have time to call all the ones who don't reply !! That will need to be at least 2 weeks !!
