Nice thought and I only wish it would make other to think. However I do already know it will not because most are content as they are just passing through this sequence eating, drinking and doing what others do like in follow the leader.
From one view maybe they did learn from Galilao. Maybe they learned that even if one opposed to the organized religions ideas, they will not in the long run stop the organized religion from getting stronger and bigger. For me it is kinda sad that such is all I see in respect to the incident you did mention.
I of course assume that your stated comment of "didn't we learn anything from Galileo" meant did others not see that the ogranized religion could be wrong. Did I read your comments correctly?
Now in respect to the controversy, look at both sides. Is it not a fact that evolutionists have made the concept of evolution by theory a religion just as those who do embrace creation meaning creationists have nade creation a religion. Thus it becomes two opposing forces who are doing battle for the hearts and minds of the masses [including pocket books]. Such could be eliminated if there could be two popes, or two heads to the different christian denominations, etc.
Funny thought is it not. I say that because then it would mean splitting the contributions and you know about that word greed. Do you think that one group would be content to share 50/50 their collections with another group. GOOD LUCK.
Have a good day while you smile I hope thinking about the greedy people in the religious world spending all that money just to say send your money to us only. Remember it is tax deductible.

Yes. It's because of the creationists that evolution is so controversial. Kids get conditioned at an early age to believe certain things by their parents and teachers etc. By the time they are grown up these teachings are set like concrete in them. There's nothing so hard to change as "beliefs". So unless one has an open mind there's not much chance of changing it.
You can't blame people for being conditioned as children, when their lives depended on absorbing what they were told. Now they don't even realize what's been done to them. We all do this to our kids, not always deliberately, but by the way we live.
An example of what (Was it Marx?) said, "Man is born free, but is everywhere in chains" (Invisible chains, but just as compelling.)

Evolution is controversial because people that don't believe in God have to have some way of figuring out where we came from without the concept of God. The fact that it is bad science is starting to wear at its foundations, however. The more scientific fact that scientists uncover, the more evolution is disproved. For instance, there is no way in evolutionary thinking to tell where an eye could have developed in the long train of mutations needed. What I say is, "Where are all the transitional forms TODAY that are needed to support evolution; there should be millions and millions of them... but there aren't any". In Ann Coulter's new book, 'Godless' she gives a lot of space to this very subject. Basically, the devil is always trying to keep you from believing in God. Evolution is just one of his many lies to support that agenda

Many still stick to the mass conformity ideals that the Church is the only right answer! Yes there are issue is Darwinism that have yet to be addressed but it is far superior to any other offering as of now!
Religious researchers & leaders often support or encourage studies in these areas for hope that they will finally find a scientific proof of God... only problem is that Dogma stands in the way of true progress!

Evolution contradicts religious values like if evolution is true, then God does not exist and did not create this world. Most people besides scientists deny the theory because the majority of the world believes in God...that's why it is so controversial...

I think that initially, the idea was controversial because it was new.
Later on, it became controversial because Evolutionists were treating it like it was fact, when it was merely another faith.
I've talked to some Evolutionists that deny it being a belief. I took the time to point out that they should believe what they want.

The bible is shown to be in error by evolution, it sinks the whole deal really and so instead of embracing the light of real knowledge Christians go into denial and try to envelope themselves in a fantasy where evolution is something that they think they can just wish away...they can't.

Some people still believe that Darwin & Galileo were tools of the devil. I'm afraid that some people will never learn no matter how hard we try.

I think it boils down to the fact that people feel insulted when you tell them their ancestors were chimps. My mom is like that...she about bit my head off once during a little debate. That is why it is best not to rile them up...let them believe what they want, there is no way you will persuade them otherwise.
