Atheism is not believing in the existence of a deity.

Usually, those who identify themselves as atheists will also be naturalists - i.e. not believe in anything supernatural at all. Though it is not a necesary connection. This is largely because people who do not believe in deities, but believe in some other supernatural thing will generally have their own name (like, some buddhist sects. Atheist buddhists will identify themselves as buddhists, not atheists).

Atheism is when you have come to a conclusion saying that all religion is used to suppress people and have them under control for your own benefit. Religion has been use for that purpose too much and too long and have discredit the religions badly. On the other hand religion can be an answer to what we can't know and will never know by it gives some comfort to some of us. Religion can also be a philosophic way of living. Those who say that there are only one true religion should watch their tongs as it tells at the same time how limit they are in their thinking and mostly is a lack of education. To be an artiest could also be some sort of religion too.

Atheism is a term probably coined by Christians. Christians view things in absolutes. It's the opposite of what they believe in. They needed a more PC way of saying "Heathen" or "Pagan"

Why are you even asking this? Why not just pick up a dictionary and look it up? Well as long as you're here I'll explain it in layman's terms. The prefix "a" means not, the word theism means a belief in god(s). Put those together and you get "not a belief in god(s)", or in a more natural manner of speaking, "a lack of belief in god(s)."

Atheism is the belief that there is no higher power. No god. No purpose. Nothing atheist believe in nothing. Well if they believe in nothing why are they here???

It's is some one who is scared to believe that they will be charged for their sins, yet still want to live sinless. So why not believe that we come from monkeys. Although were do the monkeys come from. Oh and why don't the monkeys evolve into a human any more. Their should be a half monkey half man running by my window any minute now...lol

By the way there is NO evidence behind evolution. look it up, Duh
