As a junior doctor I got called one night to see a lady on the eye ward. She was profoundly deaf and blind in one eye. The eye doctors had operated on her GOOD eye to preserve the sight in it (I seem to recall it was diminishing because of a cataract). The nurses wanted me to find out what medication she was on!
Unfortunately, I was unable to establish communication with her. She believed that she was in a hotel. She could sense people about her, but was totally unable to communicate with them. I was forced to copy her medication list from her old medical notes - holding the unimportant or questionable stuff and giving the important stuff.

Research Helen Keller->she was blind-deaf and had a teacher named Anne Sullivan who taught her how to communicate. Like Anne taught Helen language by using her fingers to spell out words in Helen's hand. So they mostly rely on their sense to touch/feeling to communicate...
