I read in a newspaer few days ago that in Pakistan they have a law which states:

Any women who is raped must produce four eyewitnesses as a minimum, to prove that she was raped or else she will be prosecuted for adultery/prostitution.

There are thousands of women in Pakistani jails suffering because they could not produce eyewitnesses. This law is called "Hudood".

What are your views?

No, it is not right for women to suffer humiliation like that. I don't know what Islamic "Law" that they are following. As far as I know and this is based on the Quran, 4 witnesses must be produced when you accuse someone of adultry. The spirit of this particular law is so that no one could spread 'fitnah" (accussation based on lies) as he/she pleases. The credibility of the witnesses are also questionable, ie some one who is known to be fair and just, known to for his honesty, have not committed any "heavy" sin etc not just some guy being paid to do so. Now, tell me, how many can you find of those in this world who happened to take a walk one day and coincidently witness a rape?

When a rape occurred and the victim files a report, it falls on the accussed/rapist to prove that he is innocent, not the other way round. However, the women are also reminded in the Quran to accuse some one of rape is a big matter, and if they are found lying, they are responsible for "fitnah" and penalised.

Now, how could the rape victim produce 4 witnesses who would testify of the rape? Also, who would came up and confess that they are adulterous? This is really incomprehensible in my opinion.

I do not see this as being a very just system of law.

And I am not trying to change the subject, or replace one argument with another as some folks do to avoid the question. But have you considered how women who are rape victims in the U.S. are treated? It is suggested that rape statistics are always wrong, because it is likely the most underreported crime.

Why? Well, I'll let you (or anyone who wants to) give that answer a shot.

I think that it is sad anytime there is a miscarriage of justice, wherever it occurs. And I would say that what you describe is such a case.

The governement is allowing women to be raped with this law. When have you ever heard of a man rapeing a women in a place where people would stroll past and see? Thats what happens when male pigs run a country.

That is certainly not fair. But anger of injustice brings u nowhere. Action speaks louder. Maybe you can think how you might be able to make a small small difference by reaching out to the society/other countries?

My dream is to build a school in 3rd world country. Education might not be the great solution. But I believe from there, at least they realise they got a choice, not born with no choice.

No, in Islam four eyewitnesses should be produced to say that she committed adultery, but not for rape. Also the panelty for adultery is whipping both the male and female 80 whippings in public so every one knows they committed adultery.

rape victims denied access to abortion. fair?
more than 120,000 women are raped in mexico each year, according to official figures. the real figures could be a lot higher as 90% of victims do no even report their rape. these rape victims are routinely denied access to abortion...unless the woman concerned is raped, abortion is illegal in mexico. however, many women are still denied safe abortions even if their pregnancy was a result of this crime. many are intimidated, insulted or threathened by officials into having backroom abortions, or going through with their unwanted pregnancies.
some public prosecutors have told rape victims that having an abortion would kill them.
that humiliation drives over 90% of women away from ever even reporting their rape. and as a result, without reporting the rape, they're not entitled to an abortion. this forced many rape victims into having backroom abortions at great risk to their health.

Such treatment of women is not just criminal, it is a sin before G~d/Allah.

It is not a law of G~d/Allah, but rather that of man/men who treat women as less than human.

Unfortunately there are many things like this that make this world unfair for many of humankind, but they are not easily rectified until and unless all people realize the rights of all humans to be treated equally.

I think you got it wrong the law is that when someone reports that a man and a woman had a sexual relation without marriage, he has to bring other 3 men to confirm that they saw this happening. Without this he will be convicted of spreading rumors to ruin others reputation.

No need to target Muslims alone. Over the ages this has been happening. A religion develops as a progressive step to elevate the followers to prosperity and happiness. But what happens soon after (say 50 years later)?

The same religion becomes the most oppressive instrument in the hands of the those who rule. Religion is the weapon to rule the mind of the people (as guns are to rule the physical self).

Who are to blame? Us (men and women). We accept all nonsense in the name of religion and God and Politics. We are basically "slaves" who toe the line of the establishment.

Don't shed tears for others. Are you doing your job of opposing effectively all wrong things in your neighbourhood, city, district, state and country? Do your duty first and then cry for women in Pakistan.

Why George Bush is still the President of USA after the exposure of utter lies regarding WMD in IRAQ?
ISN'T USA OCCUPYING IRAQ AND NOT LIBERATED IT ?
What are YOUR views on these? I can list thousands of wrong-doings of the USA govt. to others in the world and to its own citizens. I can go on for ever on this...

We are in the era of revivalism. Neo-fascism is rampant in America and Europe. Racism in the western world is rampant particularly in Germany. Zionism of Israel is now main news. Rabid Hinduism is rampant in India. What happened to Russia? (They have brought back Christianism). Adam and Eve theory of Bible is taught in US schools
