My neurologist prescribed on otc cocktail for me which has changed my life! I could not take preventative meds as I had reactions to all of them. I was getting a migraine every 2 weeks and it was lasting 3 days. I was losing so much of my life to bedrest in a totally dark, totally quiet room. Prescription pain meds gave me no relief. Now, I very rarely get one and, when I do, they are no where near as severe as they were before. Now the migraine pain meds get rid of the few I have!
You can see your neurologist for preventative medication or treatment. Or, I will gladly tell you the cocktail, if you email me for it. It isn't anything that can hurt you as it is all non-prescription and it might change your life!

That sounds awful. Pharmacies have blood pressure machines available to the public. You need to check your blood pressure a few times a week to rule out high blood pressure. It can trigger migraines and make you feel flush as well. I take an herbal supplement called "Remifemin" that helps with the hot flashes and night sweats a lot. It is made by SmithKline Beecham. As a migraine preventative, I am prescribed a low dose high blood pressure medicine. I still have other triggers but learning what they are and avoiding them has made a real improvement. If you feel a migraine coming on take ibuprofen immediately. Sometimes they can be halted in early stages. Best of health to you. I hope you get some good suggestions that help.

I have suffered from migraines for over 25 years off and on. Have tried tons of pills but only Tylenol works for me now. I take 3 as soon as I feel a little pounding starting. If I am home I take a warm bath in the dark or lay in bed with no light or put a towel over my eyes to keep light out and have a small fan on low to lull me to sleep. There are white noise machines at stores that are faint soft noise just to relax your mind while trying to fall asleep. But no light works best for me. If I am outside the home I try to get home or go to a restroom and close my eyes for about 5 minutes. Good luck!
P.S. I personally think that trying different ways besides pills is the best. Some pills are addictive and some make the migraines worse or can give you weird side effects.

When I get migraines, I can't function at all. I put a damp washcloth over my face and tried to lie still in a quiet, dark, cool place. I couldn't think or I wanted to cry from the pain but if I cried, that would just hurt worse.
Excedrin migraine works pretty good. Too bad I didn't have any on me the last time.

Hi there. I used to have pretty bad migraines, with my head throbbing so bad that I wanted to bang it against the wall! I tried painkillers, but hated it. So,I started on a programme to loose weight. It was all about taking the right nutrition for my body. After a week,I noticed that my migraine problem was totally gone (besides shedding a few pounds) .I have been on this programme for 8 weeks now,and all through the time,I never experienced any migraine at all!

Sleep.
Lots of Benadryl.
I had a really horrible one once. I thought I had a brain tumor, it was so bad. I had to go to the hospital. They gave me medicine--it was a narcotic, and they didn't tell me what.
That did the trick.
