Wasn't that the name of the "lake" they found that they are going to have to "drill" 1 mile through ice to reach an environment that may/may-not be prehistoric? Any word on how that project is proceeding?

It is Lake Vostok. It has been covered by ice for thousands of years, but is liquid water underneath the ice. It is believed to have been isolated from the surrounding environment for thousands of years. The problem with drilling into it is the fact that bacteria, or "life", has been found to be very tenacious in where it can exist. In other words, even if scientists think they have a completely sterile drill mechanism, some outside bacteria or microbe may be on the mechanism. [Microbes have been found to thrive inside nuclear reactor cores, so life can go just about anywhere it reallywants to.] So, they cannot be sure they won't contaminate the pristine environment of the lake.
If they ever figure out how to drill into Lake Vostok, the technology used will surely influence the tech used on a mission to Jupiter's moon Europa which is believed to be covered in an ice shell with a liquid ocean underneath which may have life of its own. But, it will be hard to insure any life found in either Lake Vostok or on Europa was not brought in by the drill used to get there.
