I've got a pretty serious ear infection. The GP prescribed these antibiotics, but it hasn't improved. I'm meant to see the ENT specialist, but he's fully booked till Saturday. Is their any benefit or risk to doubling the antibiotic dosage?

Take your normal dose even if it seems to be ineffective. You need to give your medication time to actually work. Medications for bacterial infections are tricky and try to maintain a balance between killing off the bad bacteria and not killing off what bacteria you need. If you doubled your dose any number of things could happen. It's just not a risk I'd be willing to take.

Never, ever double your medication. If the normal dose doesn't work, doubling it won't either. It means that you need a different antibiotic. You might need a broad spectrum antibiotic. You also don't say how long you have been on the antibiotic. Most standard antibiotics must be taken for 3 full days before you notice any improvement (some of the newer antibiotics work after 24 hours). If it has been past three days of doses, contact your GP again to see if he will order you a different antibiotic.

Antibiotics do more harm than good and dont address
the core problem..which is a crappy immune system.
They only make you weaker and more prone to infections
TRUST ME I KNOW>

Every time I or my daughter get an ear in fection I go
down to the grocery store and to the supplement section
There I purchase some garlic gel caps, which say Garlic Oil
Gel Caps. I puncture one and empty it into each infected
ear, i do this several times a day for a couple days, kills the infection every time. When you do this put a cotton ball
in your ear to keep the liquid in, it also helps if you lie
on the opposite side. It has never in all the times Ive
used it made the infection worse. The doctors dont
believe in this kind of treatment so they wont
be helpful to you, they only believe in artificially
made Pharmacueticals.

You can keep taking your antibiotics if you really
want to meanwhile you use the garlic oil, however you
need to do something about your crappy immune system.
