I was in the middle of moving, and my maincoon got out. He is an indoor cat, and is very large and long haired. I live in Florida, and the heat has been miserable.
I am very scared he is doing very badly outside. There is no trace of him anywhere... i put food and toys and a bed out for him, but he hasnt returned.
Can anyone help with suggestions?

I feel so sad for you, apart from being an obviously much loved pet, you are so lucky to have one of these beautiful cats. my greatest ambition is to have one.
Very rare in Australia.

Get all of your neighbors to check thoroughly under their houses, and in the darkest recesses of their garages.

As your cat is a homebody, he may be quite close to you, and very successfully hiding.
Cats quite often get themselves tucked in somewhere dark and "safe", and become too afraid to appear.

Don't give up hope, cats have an amazing way of appearing just as suddenly as they disappear....

That's really sad. I hope he comes back soon. I would walk all over your neighborhood calling him over and over again every few hours (he could be too far away the first time you try or sleeping or ignoring you as cats do) and hopefully he will meow back so you can find him. He could be in a tree or stuck somewhere so look all over. Also, if he has never gotten out before he could be out having the time of his life and not be ready to come back yet. It's hard to get a cat who gets a taste of freedom to surrender so quickly.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I would ask neighbors and post a photo on poles and walls and put ad in the paper. If you have a local radio station I would ask if they have a announcement of lost animals or look at a shelter for the cat

Oh, I'm real sorry- It's happened to me too. Just try to think about better things. We just have to wait. Maybe someone else took it in. But if he doesn't come back- sorry.
