You said that you changed his food, but didn't say which ones you have tried. Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold, Wysong. all make a great hypo-allergenic formula..(Not Science Diet) You will find these at most local pet supply shops.
If the kibbles you have tried contained corn or soy, or beet pulp, or wheat..those are the most common allergins.
If you have tried any of the above, and are still having problems, email me for the homemade recipe.

Well there are several different reasons.
Easiest would be she's just a dog that sheds a lot and it's been really hot out and it's her body's way of getting cooler.
Second could be hormonal
Third could be allergies.
Fourth could be a disease like mange
Fifth She may have parasites, or fleas, ticks, etc
Worst case I know of was I lost a dog to liver cancer, it made all her fur fall out in big patches that left bald spots.
If it continues I would and you can't figure it out readily take her to the vet!

What kind of dog? Is the hair falling out in patches or all over? How often are you changing the type of food? If you change too often, that can prove to be a problem. The dog's system cant regulate to a food unless it is given time. If the hair os falling out in patches, it could be mange. In which case, you need to have her dipped. She'll smell bad for a while but it will help.

Could be a skin allergy caused from a change in dog food, shampoo, something that was put over/on her to a change in the weather outside to mange to fleas. That's good ya rescued her :) Rescues, I found, have a certain spunk about them (: Being that yall rescued the dog, I'm betting that it's caused by a change in diet. Happened to my older dog, Jake, when we switched up his food once. Only way to be 100% sure is to take her to the vet and get a skin scraping (that will be done to determine if she's got one of the 2 types of mange).

If the fur is falling out around the top of the rump, it is most likely a flea allergy. If your dog is losing hair all over, it could be from air conditioning, too dry of air. The most effective things I have done for this problem is to apply flea drops on the neck monthly, have the dog wormed for tapeworms (caused by fleas - medication can only be obtained from your vet) and to feed your dog a lamb and rice dog food. Something that works good is to put olive oil or vegetable onto your dog's bald patches and massage in in, then give your dog a bath with a mild shampoo (not dog shampoo) and put a lot of conditioner on and leave it on for a couple of minutes til you rinse it off. Your dog should feel much better after at least a bath, and if it is fleas, you need to get rid of them or your dog will never get over this problem, and the best thing is the flea drops, either from your vet, feed store, or in the dog care aisle of your grocery store, in order of cost from highest to lowest.

Don't keep changing the food "over and over". This could be just sheding, so buy an appropriate brush (ask a groomer for the right type of brush for your dog's coat). If the dog is "going bald", it could be mange or a skin problem, if that's the case...go to the vet.
Seriously, don't keep switching foods. Purina Dog Chow is good. Or Science Diet or Eucanuba (if you don't mind spending a little more money)

Dogs shed their undercoat during the summer months. There isn't really much you can do except brush her a lot to get rid of the dead hair. It's perfectly normal. If it's getting so bad that it's leaving bald spots I would take her to a vet because she may have a skin disorder.

Is she MISSING her fur, can you see skin? It definately sounds like a skin condition that needs to be treated. Too much change in food can make her sick. I suggest any of the foods the person above me listed, they are all very good.
I'd get her to a vet to be safe.

My 3 yr old F german shepherd just started that this summer. I took her to the vet, ran some test, and she's become allergic to fleas. So we put her on Revolution that keeps away heartworms, fleas, ticks, even ear mites. Her hair grew back and she's fine now. $146 vet bill though.

I had a senior dog who began losing her fur. The vet checked her for many things, including...mange, mites, skin allergies, infections...both yeast and bacterial, and of course, fleas. By the time she had tested a ton of medications, she was almost bald. Finally, the doctor prescribed a steroid pill that helped, and she took a human Benadryl pill at bedtime for its calming effects. Go ahead and take the dog to the vet, and he/she will check your dog for the things above... best wishes!
