Run defrag, clear temp files and cookies.
If you continue to run slow scan for hacks and virus.
Run good firewalls and learn to configure them.
Read tech mags. I like PC world, it does great evaluations and it doesn't geek speak.

You can find the some registry cleaner programs and install it on your computer and run it.
as well as some of other friends above says. Decrementing will also help

2- get the Registry Mechanic from the interent and run it to see how much errors u have
