I understand your issue. When I go to places such as restaurants and I notice someone looks Hispanic and when I talk to them in Spanish and they dont answer me back in Spanish I get really dissappointed.

One way you can deal with this is just learn a few words in Spanish so you can tell them about your background, like 'Yo soy solo mitad Hispanic/Espanola y no hablo mucho espanol" or something like that, I would understand your issue and I wont get dissappointed.

And immigration or screaming or running will not help at all
Good luck my friend :)

If this is a persistent problem, I'd go ahead and pick up a teach yourself kit, if I were you. It's an easy language to learn. If it's any consolation, I'm a redhead of obvious western european origin (the variety that explodes in sunlight) and people walk up to me and speak Spanish as well. I can speak it back, but I'm a little mystified by the fact that that assumption could be made about me.

In the meantime, just tell them. They might be disappointed, but it's better to be honest than foolish.

You could learn to speak Castillion so simple is that. There is another thing, how do a Spaniard look like. Dark hair, blond hair, brown eyes or blue eyes, 195 cm tall or very short less than 160 cm. Do you look like an Arab or as a North African or as a Gypsy or do you look like as someone from Scandinavia? All sort of people can be found in Spain for 1000 of years.

Just say: "¡Hablo solamente un poco de Español, apesadumbrado!" It means: "I only speak a little Spanish, sorry!" I know the "sorry" seems long and hard, but once you know how to say it and get used to it, you'll be okay. It's all about practice!

And I'm just the same! I have Spanish and look very much like it and when going to Spain, they speak Spanish to me! Argh...!
