this is so very sweet! i like the idea above about the diary, its a very nice thought. but what about a peom? either a personal fave the 2 of you share or one you write just for her??? buy some gorgeous heavyweight paper in her fave color and find a calligrapher to print it beautifully and frame it for her!

I have a few ideas because I actually just did the same thing! I made my husband a little scrapbook. The first page was to explain the present, then I used different patterned papers to cut out a circle and decorated it like a clock with sticker numbers at 12, 3, 6, 9 and little heart stickers for the numbers in between. I drew in a time of about 12:03 and wrote a letter on the back of that page about how our time together has just begun and how much I look forward to the rest of our lives together. The whole clock idea comes from the fact that the "contemporary" anniversary gift is clocks...so I thought I would combine the paper thing and the clock thing.
Then I added another page that had another idea for a present - I wanted us to go pick out journals for each other and write in them when we're apart or anytime we want to. Then at certain times we will go look back at what the other person wrote.
The last page was a love letter and on the back I wrote out the lyrics to our song.
Other ideas I had were to do something with origami, make him a shadowbox with orgami hearts and pictures from the wedding. Write him a story or poem in just really nice handwriting. I thought about getting him a book or something like that. In the end he really loved what I did and it only ended up costing me $15 in stickers, scrapbook paper and those plastic sheet protectors. Good luck!

Since the symbol for first anniversary is paper, I think it would be nice if you give a gift that's related to or made of paper. Some ideas are stationery with your joint initials, a book of romantic poems or something significant to you both, or, give a box of love notes that you write to your wife for her to read for the next week, month, or year.
Flowers are always great too!
The amount you spend is never the factor but the effort you put into will be. Your wife will appreciate your thoughtfulness more than anything. Congrats!

The first anniversary is represented by means of paper. A guide might be a well solution to move. Since he is a man, he will like an unpleasant guide. Go with a Karma Sutra or Burlesque(sp) guide. Dress up in paper underwear whilst you deliver the reward to him.

I had a friend who gave his spouse a diary for their first year anniversary....it had all his innermost thoughts about life, love and family.....his spouse showed it too me later and there was the sweetest things in it......like how he noticed the little things about her that she wasn;t aware of....and how he imagined them spending their lives together
You could even add photos and other items as a way of documenting the year you guys have had as a married couple.
I always thought the diary idea was the most romantic thing .... my friend put a lot of effort into it....and in the end it didn't matter how much it cost coz she loved it...
There was even a letter he had written her on their wedding day

This meets both of your needs - create a scrapbook of photos and memorbelia from the first year of your marriage. I believe that there are even companies who help beleagured men without clues or taste to help put these together. Even if is just a picutre montage with captions explaining what each means to you, you cannot go wrong. It's all about the thought and this shows beaucoup thought.
