Not much. Edjucate her as much as possible and find out who's buying her the smokes. Cut that short. I started smoking at that age. Remind her that you are concerned because you love her, not because you want to run her life.

No simple answer for that. I started smoking at an early age. I was spanked, whipped, grounded and forced to smoke a carton of cigarettes and some stoggies. None of that dissuaded me. First let me ask you a question? Why is your 14 y/o sister staying with you? You mean like a vacation? or is there some problem at home? When I was 14 I didn't know, no one knew, cigarettes caused cancer, or COPD or emphysema, (except the tobacco companies maybe). What I did know was that I didn't know who I was, what I wanted, or where I was going.(but I'd'ave never told YOU that) Typical for a teenager. But most importantly I had no goals, dreams, plans.(pipe-dreams maybe) I had no one who believed in me, I didn't believe in myself. I had no one to guide or direct me, take a genuine interest in where I was headed, (unless you counted nagging, which is so not the same thing). Cigarettes then became my rebellion. The more I got caught and punished, the more I realized I had some kind of control. I kept smoking.II thought they made me look cool and since I didn't have many friends I felt I NEEDED them. Maybe your sister is using the cigarettes to try and say something, something important. Maybe she feels insecure, unsure, afraid, lost. If you do battle over the cigarettes you'll lose Trying to force the issue when obviously she's been allowed to smoke will turn into a power struggle. It's not about the smoking, it's about the cigarettes, those are her wepons, her tools for communication., her self-confidence.
I think if you try to focus on helping her build her self esteem, achieve some things she can be proud of, show her someone cares not just that she does what the adults in her life want her to do, but that they genuinly care about her future, she may listen to reason when she feels better about herself and will decide for herself that she doesn't need a "prop". When she has some goals and successes and she can believe in herself, and she has people who believe in her....That's all any of us want anyway.
Good luck, and may the spirit of enlightenment guide you.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

2016-05-18 09:30:43 · answer #3 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

I smoke. I have smoked since I was 14. There's only a few ways to deal with this. First you must recognize WHY she smokes. Smoking is a crutch for the emptiness you feel inside because of the chemicals it releases into your brain that make you feel good, then you get addicted. Is she having trouble with something in school or her social life? Is she depressed/ has other mental illnesses? Or is it solely peer-pressure and the need to feel "cool". Once you've identified the problem, you can help find a solution. If she's already addicted, it's too late, and then she will have to find something else in life that fills that void the same way cigarettes do. What you will find as someone gets more and more addicted is the need to smoke, and the irritability that happens when you don't fill that need. For me now, I cannot watch someone smoke or even hear them flick their lighter. Eating certain foods triggers the urge to smoke (especially anything in tomato-based sauce). I am so addicted now that I MUST smoke after every meal because I will get really bad indigestion if I don't. I realized my issue early, I have two younger brothers. I forced them to smoke and entire carton until it hurt them. They have never smoked since.

At 14 kids think there immortal. It's always the other girl who will get a disease. Besides that's years from now and she can quit anytime she wants. Sure, sure, my Moms got Emphysema and she still can't quit. Cigarettes are designed and engineered for only one reason. To get young people addicted to smoking to keep the tobacco companies rich. But, there is one thing she should think hard about. Cigarettes make you age faster, and that's true for everyone. They dry your skin! Give you wrinkles! Ruin your natural tone, and color! That is because they inhibit the flow of oxygen to the tiny capillarys in the skin. No amount of moisturizer will stop that.

So maybe your wife and sister could work together to help each other quit. A cooperative effort to stay healthy and younger looking. I've heard of no woman yet, or man for that matter, who wants to look old before their time.

Good Luck to all

Make her smoke a cigarette or two and inhale all the way, one quick deep inhale after another. She will more then likely get sick like I did when I was a kid and talk to her about the reasons why she should not do it after she feels better. Believe me if she gets the dry heaves she will not want to touch another smoke for a long time. However if she has been smoking for a while that may not work. In that case introduce her to people or familys that lost loved ones. If she has it in her head she may smoke anyways. Last resort worse comes to worse tell her she can smoke but only in the house around you that way if she tries something more serious she will feel comfortable about coming to you if she has problems in other areas. Dont yell at her it will not work. Just tell her you would rather her not and you dont condone it but do not lie to you.

This is a serious answer that as been TRIED AND TESTED AND SUCESSFULL. What you need to do is secretly get a couple of your sisters cigarettes, using a cotton bud run a thin line of milk down each cigarette, leave to dry and put them back in the packet where you found them. As soon as your sister lights up one of the cigarettes, the taste and smell is so disgusting it puts you off the thought of smoking. This method is completely harmless and has aided people into becoming non-smokers. good luck

If I'm not mistaken, 16 is the legal age, so your sister is obtaining them from someone at least 16, or maybe older. I hope she isn't doing anything too treacherous to obtain them. That's a very scary thought. The only thing I ever use when dealing with siblings (I have a sibling 9 years younger than me) is shame. I try to shame them into stopping whatever it is that they're doing. It may not always work. It will only work if you have a fairly open dialogue established. That's all I can think of.

Well try making her eat a cigg. or have her get a piece of tissue paper and light a cigg and blow threw the tissue and see what her lungs are looking like its very gross! if that dont work put her in classes. They show some awful videos where people have holes in there throats from smoking and every morning when they wake up they have to cough up about 3 cups of mucus and also they have pictures showing if you smoke long enough you can actually grow hair on your tongue this is no lie trust me im 17 and i went to smoking classes before its very nasty!

You have to tell your wife to quit smoking. She should show a practical example. Bring your wife and your sister together, invite a medical doctor to lecture them on the dangers of smoking.

Try getting them a special sweet or chewing that they can take when in the mood to smoke till they adjust to their new status.

Remember, you have to be supportive, patience, encouraging and entice them by buying them gift.

God will see you through.

Threaten to kick her out. I know it's harsh, but she SHOULD NOT smoke. I started smoking when I was 14, and finally quit this year.. I'm 23. It's the worst thing in the world to do. She has to stop now before she gets addicted. Do whatever you can to get her to stop. Even if that means telling her she has to leave.
