Has anyone fired one of these cannons yet? I was curios about the recoil? As bad as a shotgun, worse, or just right?

The .500 isn't bad to fire recoil is similar to a .45

Of course with a rubber grip, ported barrel, and 12 inch barrel it will calm down the felt recoil quite abit.

The Smith & Wesson 500 is a handgun...Comparing it with other high power handguns might give you a better idea of the pounding you're going to take...The 460 S&W Mag, 454 Casull, 44 Mag, or 480 Ruger...Have fun, bring aspirin!

Either I'm confused or your question is. Are you talking about the NEF H&R handi rifle in S&W 500? I would think in a rifle the recoil would be somewhat like a 30-30...I don't see the advantage of this round in a rifle...Too many better choices and the ammo is very expensive...

The S&W 500 is called "the hand cannon" ...Sorry I thought you meant "hand" rifle, then when you added the "cannon", oh well, it's late...Hope you find someone who owns one and can give you the run down...

I don't think you have to worry about it. Not much use for one in a rifle. I think the only reason there making them now is because people like the new caliber and think its cool to have a 500 S&W but not spend 1000 bucks.
