A bank account would be better. Or one of those educational funds you can start with little money. If that isn't feasible, a nice cross to hang in the nursery. Hallmark stores or a religious store would have nice ones for young children.

yes I believe it is tradional to take the child something silver! My own daughters were lucky enough to be the recipients of gold bluebird bracelts for theres. something to do with being the only grandchildren at the time tho.
