Definently. Platinum is a great color for summer.
It will take you a while to get there. You should do it in phases. Go to a lighter brown at first. About ten days later, go to a strawberry blonde. Then ten days after that, do the platinum.
The downfall is that this process takes so much time. If you rush it you will damage your hair and it will break or even fall out.
The best thing to do, though expensive, is to go to a good salon and ask if any of their colorist has done a black to platinum coloring.
Go for it girl.

If your hair is black like it looks, you can't just go straight to platinum or your hair will turn orange. It has to be gradual and doesn't really sound like a good idea since you said that your hair is already damaged.

It takes nearly an hour of bleaching dark hair to get it blonde....let alone the time it takes to make it platinum blonde. If your hair is already damaged, this is absolutely going to fry it. Instead of making yourself half bald and spending a year to repair your hair, what if you just invest in a great platinum wig and save your hair?

no dont do it your hair will break off and fall out more or break after its colored.and yes it will turn orange and red and will have to be done several times to get it to turn and wont go that color if it really is black.most colors only lift 4 shades in a beauty salon and with bleach it doesnt lift black up to a platinum.just go demi permanent while your color is growing out its healthier Regis Salons carry this.

yeah you'd want to be really careful with that. You don't want to use just any bleach either. This is one of those times where you'd want to get this done professionally, and use special conditioner. Also be prepared to "shed".
But be careful with your color choice, if you're hair is naturally black, I wouldn't go blonde. Haircolor that dosen't match eye color/skin tone can make a person look really unattractive, fake or sickly looking.

oh hunny dont do that to yourself. i had plantnum blonde hair and died it brown but turned black and about six months later i wanted my real hair color back...(blonde) so i bleached it.. my hair started falling out. i suggest that you do it in stages. color your hair like an auburn color and put some highlights in it. then slowly go all the way blonde. that way it doesnt fry and its not so dramatic. it has been three years and im still working on my hair to be healthy again and i had to cut off 15 inches!!!! be careful!

don't do it. go for some highlights first, that way you can see how your hair will take it. its very very drying to your hair... and sometimes going to the opposite extreme isn't the best option. if you do decide to do it, get it done by a colorist.

Try it.
If it doesn't work, at least it'll be light enough to easily absorb a new color.
